Whynotnow 30 Posted October 23, 2015 I'm thinking about making a Decaf K-cup of coffee. With Creamer. I'm four days postop and on the full liquid diet. Will it take me three hours to finish the cup of coffee? Haha

OutsideMatchInside 10,166 Posted October 23, 2015 I love coffee but I waited until after 6 weeks to drink it. 4 days post op it might be too much acid for you. The acid in coffee is a bigger concern than the caffeine that this point.
KeepCalm 223 Posted October 23, 2015 I think that is the only thing I'm gonna whining about... constantly - lack of coffee! :/
JamieLogical 8,710 Posted October 23, 2015 I wasn't allowed coffee until 30 days post-op. You might be better off going with tea this early. Acid is a real concern. I actually had an easier time with hot liquids in my early days than with room temp liquids. For me things either had to be hot or ICE cold to get down without immediately feeling overfull. OutsideMatchInside 10,166 Posted October 23, 2015 When I couldn't have coffee, I had this http://store.bariatricpal.com/collections/syntrax/products/syntrax-nectar-2lb-bottle-Cappuccino every morning. It satisfied my need for the coffee taste and I got my Protein in.
Whynotnow 30 Posted October 23, 2015 Looking for variety, I keep reading the list of allowed liquids, and coffee is on there. I heard to avoid caffeine but I have never heard of the acid level in coffee, so thank you for that info!
thisfathasgot2go 235 Posted October 23, 2015 At two weeks post op, Decaf coffee and tea is on my list of suggested stage 3 foods. I could not drink the entire cup though. I drank about 1/3, and I added some non-dairy Creamer.< /p>

I heard to avoid caffeine but I have never heard of the acid level in coffee, so thank you for that info! I probably drink way more coffee than I should, which is probably one of the reasons I still have to take omeprazole daily, even though I'm 14 months out now. I can't help myself! I've already given up so much by having this surgery, I couldn't bring myself to give up coffee too! Though I was a good girl and didn't drink any coffee those first 30 days post-op. I started out with one cup a day with lots of cream at the 30 day mark. But now I'm back up to 3 cups a day, sometimes 4!
KristenVSG2014 1,872 Posted October 23, 2015 Try Decaf tea (I really love fruit flavored) with vanilla Premier Protein as creamer. YUM!

And on top of that, I drink it with that terrible for us flavored creamer! But I've still lost weight doing it from almost day 1 (well a month out) because I add it to MFP, so there! I try to limit to 2 cups, and I did for a whole year. But i'm slowly sneaking in another cup every once in a while. I can't have chocolate, so a girl has to have SOME vices! BLERDgirl 6,417 Posted October 23, 2015 I was allowed Decaf on full liquids. I used vanilla Protein powder instead of creamer. I used a coffee warmer USB to keep it hot.
lauraellen80 855 Posted October 23, 2015 I drink my morning cup of coffee with an ounce of a ready-to-drink Protein shake or light vanilla almond milk, and either a half packet of stevia or a dollop of one of the Torani sugar-free syrups.
OutsideMatchInside 10,166 Posted October 23, 2015 @@JamieLogical That is basically how I feel. I have given up everything. I am not giving up coffee. I don't care about alcohol or soda, but coffee, I can't live without.
likeamazing 8 Posted October 23, 2015 Cold brew coffee has way less acid. Also espresso drinks like Decaf Americanos. It's the drip and perc brewing that has the high acid.
