Carbs, Fats and/or Calories (oh my!)

Recommended Posts

@@SleevePerry congrats on your weight loss. You look fantastic!! It sounds like you are doing wonderful.

Personally I don't worry to much about my overall calories. I mainly focus on keeping my carb count low and my Protein high. I seemed to lose better on that combination. I also do not eat anything low fat. I eat regular fat cheese, sour cream, milk, etc.

it's almost an experiment to see what my body liked the best. I did track everything religiously for the first year and now I track almost everyday, but sometimes skip a day.

Good luck to you!

Had my surgery on 4/27 so I am almost at my 6 month mark. I am down 125 pounds, but only 95 since day of surgery. I hit a stall every month! I actually only lose weight about 1 to 1.5 weeks out of the month. Now, I may lose 7 to 12 pounds in that timeframe, but that's how my weigh loss has been every month since I went on BC in July. It is frustrating to get on the scale everyday and then some days it says a pound higher. I say, "I only ate 650 calories yesterday and worked out for an hour, how could I have gained weight?" No clue! I don't know of the "honeymoon phase" everyone talks about. I have been working hard 5 to 7 days a week since week 2! I try to stick to high Protein and low carb plan.

Sounds like maybe you aren't eating enough? Too few calories for too long can really do a number on your metabolism. It's especially important to make sure you are eating enough calories to sustain your level of activity.

I tried going up to 800 to 900 and still the same. Some days I get 600 some days I get 900. My nutritionist says it's just how my body responds. Just discouraging when my hubby is losing 1 to 3 pounds every few days.

I eat high Protein, lower carb. I do not count fat grams at all and haven't since my surgery. I eat full fat cheese, avocado, etc.

Sounds a lot like my story. I was sleeved 6/23/15 and have lost 59 pounds. These first 4 months have been a breeze, no sickness, weight falling off, not a single stall. Then it all came to a screeching halt 2 weeks ago! I exercise daily, have been switching it up to fool my body, log everything into My Fitness Pal and never cheat. I eat high Protein and low carb.... Pretty much zero weight loss in 2 weeks..... So I guess this is my first stall. I average 700 calories a day as well. The only thing that has really changed for me recently has been bowel movements have slowed down, been adding Benefiber into my Protein Shakes daily but it's been probably 5 days. Maybe that's the reason for the stall!

I know I am less than a month out from my sleeve, but I was banded for 14 years and had a fill for 10+ of those years. I am amazed how fast you are all losing with the sleeve! I know it seems slow to some of you but the amounts you guys are quoting at 4 and 6 months seem staggering to me! I am guessing since it comes off quickly at the beginning then slows down that is what is getting some folks frustrated, but honestly, all the stats I see on this thread seem fantastic to me.

I found a great app called happy scale that I really like and might help some of you. It averages weight if you want it to or uses your actual weight but it gives you a graph showing you a smooth trajectory of your loss, sets up mini goals etc. Worth a shot.

If you are exercising, chances are 700 calories just aren't enough and that's why you've stalled. Your body is protecting itself by hanging onto those pounds and slowing your metabolism way down. Maybe try increasing your calorie intake and see if that breaks your stall?

@@SleevePerry please also consider the following for your coffee: FairLife milk is lower in carbs and higher in Protein. What do I put in my coffee? Premier Protein vanilla shake. And I also like mine very white. Before surgery I was using unsweetened almond coconut milk from Almond Breeze. Its only 45 calories compared to 90 calories in a glass of SKIM milk and quite yummy. I am probably at the upper end of the calorie count. I do not really count calories or carbs or fats. I supplement with at least 50 grams of protein daily, and eat when I'm hungry. Generally avoid almost all sugar. My full fat cheese drawer runneth over. Dubliner is my favorite. I am still very much in the honeymoon period, but hope this helps.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
