Psych Eval in Boston Area? Help!

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, my boyfriend is going through insurance hoops to get approval but he is having a hard time finding a therapist to see him to get his psych eval done. We have called around 15 therapists and none of them have been helpful and won't see him since it would just one consultation. Just wondering if anyone lives in the Boston area and if so, who did you see for your psych eval?

Thanks!

I am surprised that the nutritionist or surgeon did not recommend a psychologist or social worker. You should ask them.

Best wishes to both of you.

His surgeon is out of state so they told him to find someone in his area and his nutritionist is enough of a hassle to deal with since she is against him getting surgery so young (even though he is 23). I'm so surprised that we haven't found a therapist. It's literally the last appointment he has to schedule before he can submit to insurance.

They evaluated you online? What insurance do you have? I'm just afraid using something online or by phone won't be good enough for his insurance company (he has BCBS Fed)

You register online and answer an extensive questionnaire.

You also input insurance information and they will contact you to let you know if your insurance covers the appointment or not. If they do not cover it there is a flat fee of $100.

I have BCBS and they covered mine.

The consultation itself is done over the phone. You schedule a time that works for you, night and weekends included and it takes about an hour.

If you call the bariatric program at St. Elizabeth's in Brighton they can probably fax you the list of psych doctors they have. I have it somewhere and if you like you could message me and I'll get you the list. Let me know :)

Was he able to get the eval completed?

Yes he did! They ended up calling to reschedule for the next evening, but when he did actually get the call, it went smoothly. They apologized a bunch and faxed in his clearance immediately after the call ended. Thank you for your suggestion!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
