People rarely use it. I used to suggest that and even provided a few links, but most people don't bother.

When people are starting to research, or are recently post op, their mental/emotional state is often such that they seek a custom answer that applies to them. In other words, even if you have a beautiful search function, many people are unlikely to use it because at that very moment they are feeling very unique.

the good news is that those very same people... a few months later can answer those same questions for the newest members! It seems to work.

To avoid burnout, I just won't open threads about:

- 3 week stall (good heavens has that topic been covered a million times or what!?)

- Gas/shoulder pain immediately post op

- Why I haven't lost 100 pounds in the first month ..okay, sometimes I can't help myself and try to bring a voice of reason.

I pick and choose which threads I reply to as well. If multiple people have responded I tyr to leave it at that.

I didn't intend to "turn mean". I remember what it was like. The fears, the history of failure (heck I'd even failed with a previous bariatric surgery!) . I had so much to lose, I too was at times scared that I'd miss the honeymoon period etc etc.

It is just very hard to give rational reassurance when people are in such a high state of anxiety.

Why do you feel you were unsuccessful at your first bariatric surgery attempt?

Lapband procedure is statistically not as effective over the long haul. So my #1 reason is wrong choice of procedure. #2 lack of education on managing hunger, food etc. #3 lack of support, especially when the side effects got unbearable and I had to have Fluid removed. #4shame and pride and blaming my fat self rather than seeking medical care. #5 not understanding the obesity disease process

Why do you feel you were unsuccessful at your first bariatric surgery attempt?

@@CowgirlJane Thank you for sharing! It is good to learn from others what to watch out for as you have gone down this path before many of us and I prefer to not learn the hard way if at all possible!

We've had a coffee thread like everyday. I guess that is an improvement from the alcohol thread every day.

I can't tell you how many times I've searched "constipation" looking for help. I even posted my own thread on the topic in a desperate search for help. Sometimes you just hope there will be a new revelation on the topic.

Somehow I think that subject is unchanging, hence, nothing new to be said about it.

[Yeah, I get what you meant.]

To get people to search before posting the same old thing, you'd have to begin this topic anew daily.

I didn't intend to "turn mean".

Ay, ay, ay, if anyone bends over backward to be kind, supportive, positive when the eyes of strong men cross, 'tis you. "Turn mean?" You make me feel like an ogre when I so much as say to someone, "Your thinking is off."

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
