ReneK 107 Posted October 22, 2015 As I continue my wait for my surgery date, I am still trying out products and figuring out what I'll be able to eat and drink post surgery. I read this forum quite a bit and sometimes end up confused by the things people say they eat (mac and cheese? ) I have seen several people make comments about hot chocolate. I checked out the "no sugar added" hot chocolate in our pantry last night and it still seemed to have a lot of carbs and fat. Does anybody have any suggestions of favorite brands? James Marusek 5,244 Posted October 22, 2015 After gastric bypass surgery, a cup of hot cocoa will help fulfill two requirements (fluids and protein). The hot cocoa used must be "no sugar added" variety. The milk used should be low fat or no fat. I use Nesquick "No Sugar Added" chocolate. There is 7 grams of carbs and 1 gram of fat per serving size.
Threetimesacharm 1,400 Posted October 23, 2015 You can also make your own; milk, cocoa(pure powder no sugar) and then add you own sweetener as in Stevia. There is a very low calorie package one you can buy, I think Swiss Miss, it has like 25 calories per packet. The carbs will be coming from the milk in it. drmeow 323 Posted October 25, 2015 My surgeon's office sells Healthwise bariatric products and I have been pleasantly surprised by their hot chocolate and their cream of chicken Soup - both yummy! The hot chocolate comes in regular, or a variety pack with flavors like raspberry choc, cinnamon choc, etc. And it subs for a Protein shake - has about 20 g of Protein IIRC. Very thick rich taste, made with Water.
