Yes, I did all the pre-op testing, I met the requirements. My insurance didn't have a 6 month supervised diet required. They dropped it. Part of the reason is, insurance companies did a study and making people wait longer for surgery doesn't save them money in the long term. People just get sicker waiting for surgery or they are still take the same expensive medicines. I will have to look for the article.

When my packet was submitted to insurance it was approved in less than a week.

Most of the delays for surgery are with insurance companies that have 6 month diet requirements or Bariatric programs that have the requirements to try and lower their malpractice insurance.

Hi everyone!! I am about one and half hours from STL in Southern Illinois. I am going to Dr Wagner and have had a few friends go to him. My friends highly recommend him and have had a great outcome. I had to have 6 mos supervised diet for my insurance and if all goes well after my last visit (in April) I should have my surgery the end of April. I have had nothing, but good experiences with the Dr and his staff. He also does the single incision laparoscopic surgery which I'm excited about. I hear recovery is much quicker. Did any of you have or will have the single incision surgery?

Dr. Wagner just did my surgery on Monday. It was a great, smooth experience. The only drawback was the distance of the hospital from my house. I didn't want visitors to make such a long drive. I ended up having to stay a second night because my nausea wasn't properly controlled. Therefore, I wasn't taking in a lot of fluids and they were concerned about dehydration after discharge. Other than that, it was great. His office staff was kind and professional and so was everyone at the hospital. Dr. Wagner did a good job making me feel comfortable about going under the knife. They get a 4.5 out of 5 in my book.

Did you have it performed at Mercy Jefferson? That is where I am going and I am the same way about the distance from my house. I don't want to have my family to make a long treck to check on me. (Because no matter how much I tell them to stay home and that I'll be fine.....they're going to come anyway. :) )

I am sorry that you had to stay a 2nd night. I hope you're feeling better today. :D I am glad to hear that you had a great time with Dr. Wagner and his staff. :)

Yes! I had mine done at Mercy Jefferson. I started off in the surgery center across the street. Then they moved me to main hospital for my last night. I guess to not tie up a whole nurse for just one, independent patient. All of the other patients where discharged. They did manage to get me a private room at the main hospital which I was grateful for.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
