One month post surgery

Recommended Posts

Good Day people. Is it normal that I cannot eat and not willing to eat one month after op? The nutritionist gave me a chart about the time and what to eat..but i cannot follow the chart. I can take only twice the Protein and cannot eat all the meals prescribed. I do feel very weak but i just cannot eat. Is it normal? Am i going to be able to eat a bit more afterwards without feeling nausea?

Hi there! Yes it is normal that you cannot possibly eat or drink everything they tell you to right out of the gate and get all the liquids in too. You are still very swollen.

I remember fretting terribly about this and when I talked to my bariatric nurse and nut they told me to focus heavily on the Protein and Water and just do the best I could.

By about 6 to 7 weeks I was finally able to get all of my Protein and Water but it required me to have that water cup in my hand constantly.

My nut required me to drink 8 oz. of milk in between my meals and I never could get that in at all in addition to everything else. I just really focused on protein levels because that is what will help you heal properly.

I promise it will get easier and the good news is you do have some stores in your body to hold you over til you get there.

The other thing I had to do was literally set an alarm at mealtimes to remind me that I needed to eat. I was just never ever hungry, oh, how I wish I had that honeymoon again. Trust me down the road it definately changes if you had the bypass. Actual hunger does return but the good news is all it takes is a very tiny amount of food to be full again.

Good luck and congratulations!

I had RNY on September 28th, I have not been hungry since the day before my surgery. I was told to eat 3 times a day even if it's a bite or two. There are many times I eat and I just feel turned off by the off, but I have to force myself to eat,

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
