Surgery Nov. 2! Liquid diet is driving me crazy.

Recommended Posts

So surgery is quickly approaching and I couldn't be more excited, but I'm on day 3 of my liquid diet and I'm going through a wide range of feelings. I'm hungry, I'm losing my temper easier. I don't know if I'm going to make it.

You're normal!!!

That's just how our bodies react...

Keep doing the right things and venting in here when you need to...

You're amongst (mostly) nice people...

How long is your liquid diet supposed to lay? 2 weeks? Mine is supposed to be 1 week-long and I'm dreading it!!! Do you have any Protein Shakes you found that you like yet?

My liquid diet is 2 weeks. It's been awful I love the shake I use its a powder (chocorite in chocolate supreme) I mix with 10oz Water and 1 scoop of nectar unflavored Protein Powder and blend over ice.

This may sound weird, but be taking something in constantly. Drink Water, drink a shake, drink water have a Jello, drink water have a shake. Once your surgery is done you will literally have to sip ALL day. I am a week and half post op and have yet to be able to get all my water in even though I sip between shakes, jello, and broth. If you get in this habit now it will be easier after surgery, it also makes you feel fuller.

Good luck to you guys. I was sleeved 8/3. The preop was so hard, only 1 week, and we were allowed 1 meal a day with 3 Protein shakes, then 2 days of Clear liquids only. The good thing is the post op liquid diet is so, so much easier, because you have the sleeve to help you.

The pre-op liquid diet is no fun.

It was the hardest part about it for me.

Since my October 13th surgery, I am having 3 Protein shakes a day and lots of Water. I'm having no problem getting it all down and the 3 shakes are plenty of food to keep me from being hungry. No problems whatsoever.

I see zero problems whatsoever with staying on this course for a couple more weeks until the next stage.

My surgeon is very strict on the 2-week pre-op liquid diet and continued post-op 4-week liquid diet. When I was doing the pre-op 2-week deal I hit a wall about halfway through and wondered how the heck I'd be able to make it. No kidding.

Now, though, I have zero doubts I'll make it.

The surgery truly does work. Appetite is less. Hunger is all but gone. There is no urge to snack or graze. The weight.......it is falling off.

It is a medical miracle. I'm very grateful and hopeful.

I no longer see my surgeon as being overly strict. I see him as cautious and safe.

The pre-op is tough......just take it one day at a time....don't look too far ahead. Get through it and KNOW that it truly does get easier.

Today is day 2 and while I feel okay, my stomach is pissed off!!

My surgery is Nov 2 as well. I've been doing full liquids this week starting Sunday. I'm finding I get hungry right around the time that I am going to bed but I fall asleep and all seems to be ok. I'm constantly drinking something. Protein shake (I'm allowed 1 scoop of whichever Protein I like with 16oz of liquid, half almond milk and half water), tea, Water, Soups with no chucks, low/no sugar yogurt drinks... It's like it's never ending! We got this.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
