How many calories am I suppose to consume 5 months post-op GP?

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery June 2, 2015. Went in @ 285 lbs. I have lost 78 pounds! I do walk 4 half miles or workout at the gym for an hour 6 days per week. I am eating between 600-700 calories and I am afraid this will inhibit me from losing more and I have noticed the weight loss is slowing down from what it was in the beginning.

Please somebody give me some input.

I do eat healthy; lots of vegetables and in fact, I think I have became a vegetarian just because I cannot handle meats anymore.

Are you able to get to your Protein goals given your change in diet? 1 gram of Protein for every inch you are tall minimum.

If you are getting protein and your Water requirements you are simply moving to the toughest part. Weight loss does in fact slow way down for most of us. I can tell you after I hit month 6, I was maybe losing between 7 and 10lbs per month. Now, 21 lbs from goal I am losing about 5 lbs per month.

You may not be getting enough calories at this point. I know that I had to increase my intake to 1000 calories at about 7 months and then I started to lose again. You definately do not want to eat less, that doesn't help and in fact weight loss can stall. Your body becomes too used to that lower calorie count.

Have you talked to your nut? They might also tell you to add an additional 100 or 200 protein rich, carb light food.

I had surgery the day after you (June 3). I average 800-1000 kcal per day. Although I should add I'm supposed to get 80-100 grams of Protein in a day because I absorb less of it than most patients. It's hard (for me) to eat less than 800 kcal with those Protein requirements.

I have wondered this as well. I am 8 months out and have stalled at my weight loss for over a month and I wondered if it was because of my calorie intake. I DO NOT EAT WHITE food. Excerise 5 days a week and consume 800 calories a day. I havent been able to consume more then that I guess its a mental thing for me. I am 10 pounds from goal and would do flips if I could hit my goal by my 1 year anniversary.

I have lost 85 pounds now and I am 6 months out almost exactly June 2, 2015. I consume between 800-900 a day and I am exercising. I think I am doing the right things. I did speak to my doctor who told me I would lose probably 30 more which would be my goal weight, but I am tall 5'8" and large frame and I have DD implants from surgery before which most likely weigh 10 lbs themselves lol. I don't know if I want to lose 30 more. Maybe 20 more from my goal. I hope I make it. ????

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
