Can we talk about Halloween candy?

Recommended Posts

Buy candies you don't like, like wax lips (I don't know if they still make those, but they were horrible, literally they were made of wax and shaped like lips) or bring the leftover candy to work on Monday or give it to your next door neighbor's kids on 11/1.

All of you seem to be able to be done with this is one day!! I have a 3 year old and a 5 year old who have been planning for this day for months! They will bring home a huge bag. Last year I didn't eat much but I am worried about eating even a little this year!

I'll be having my surgery the day before Halloween. I'll be on the liquids still, but will miss the candy bars

I've always been a snacker at work because I tend to get involved in a project and not leave my desk for most of the day. Since my modified diet (before my surgery was postponed), I cut out all candy. After the first 2 days, I didn't even miss it. I have a jar on my desk for others that I don't even notice anymore. I bought bags of everything for the Trick or Treaters. If I can have the willpower now, I'm hoping to still have it next week. I'll bring in the extras to work and fill my jar. Or have our kids keep what they want and bring the rest to work. I try to to think about the candy. If you think about it, you'll want it.

We're going to get the usual treats and I'm going to make sure they all are given out.

The last bags will be sugar-free chewing gum so just in case it gets leftover.......

What about the candy collected by your kids?

Same as always........it's his candy. I've never eaten his candy.

Nothing about this surgery is going to suddenly change that practice.

I've had a lifetime supply of candy. It's time to let it go.

We are not buying candy this year. Our new neighborhood is very hilly and not trick-or-treat friendly. I have only seen young kids once around here and that was sledding during the winter.

I wouldn't say no to a caramel apple pop if one were to magically appear.

I was a kid when all the stories about people tampering with Halloween candy were going around. Hospitals were offering to x-Ray kid's treat bags to check for razor blades, etc.

My dad had a better plan. He would have us spread out all the candy on the table. Then he would take a "random sampling" which consisted of almost exclusively Reese cups (his favorite). Once he ate a few of them he would give us the all clear. I don't know why we never caught on to his scheme. Haha

For all the extra candy your kid's bring home, I know that some dentist's buy it back from them. I think I've also heard that some kids donate theirs to soldiers.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
