How are you all dealing with Constipation? I'll be 3 mos. out next week and still having problems with this.

I'm sorry. I haven't suffered any constipation; I am six weeks post-op and even taking daily meds that contribute to bowl problems, I don't suffer.

I have heard a million different ideas from posters on here and another forum I frequent.

Many have their own "regiment" of stool softeners, Miralax, tea, juice, Fiber supplements and making sure you are getting PLENTY of fluids.

Once I began taking a stool softener daily, I've had no issues.

Here are some of the ways people deal with Constipation from past posts:

Apples with the skin

Smooth Move Herbal Tea
Prune juice (warmed)
Prunes (4 in the morning and 4 at night)
Magnesium citrate
Insoluble fibers (Garden of Life Raw Fiber or Renew Life Triple Fiber).
Haribo sugar free Gummy Bears
Aerobic Magnesium 07
Low Fat Bran Muffin (recipe). 80 calories each
1 cup flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
½ teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon cinnamon
2 cups bran Cereal
1 ¼ cups milk
1 egg
½ tablespoon applesauce
optional: banana, berries, mini chocolate chips
Bake 400° F for 22 minutes

I did the hcg diet like 5 years ago, I suffered from it then. I used Smooth Move tea and it always worked like a charm.

Senokot-S and Colace. This is the only thing (aside from prescription med) that has helped me. Colace alone wasn't doing the trick. Added 1 Senokot-S per day and it is much better.

I am 2 weeks post-op and having major Constipation. I've tried colace 2x per day and benefiber 1x per day. This is horrible and very painful. Today I drank some Decaf coffee mixed with unflavored Protein and 1 prep h and in a few hours I had some relief. Any other suggestions?

It took an entire month for my Constipation to pass. The only thing that helped me was Glycerin Suppositories. You're right. It is painful & it was the worst side effect of my surgery. The good news is it will pass in a month or so & your body will readjust. Hang in there. Keep taking Miralax & Colace. Hang in there. It gets better

I'm in my second week post op too and having the same problem. I used probiotic, stool softener pills, magnesium milk daily and still is a problem. Today I need to use suppositories and that help. Tomorrow I'm going for diet advancement to phase 2 purée food. I hope the new diet will help me to be more regularly.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
