Will I ever be able to eat Pizza again?

I'm four months out, and last week I made "pizza" with a low-carb tortilla. Topped it with the lowest-sugar pizza sauce I could find, shredded mozzarella, and turkey pepperoni, and baked it at 400 degrees for maybe 8-10 minutes, until the cheese started to brown. It was really tasty, but I was over-ambitious and ate 3/4 of it instead of the 1/2 that I planned on... I felt pretty icky for a couple hours afterward.

I did the same. Low Carb Tortilla with homemade sauce from canned tomatoes I do every fall. Used stevia instead of sugar. Added just a little brown sugar. Turkey Pepperoni with Low Fat Italian cheese Blend. I ate half of it and felt good.

I have also had:

Cheeseburger: Turkey Burger, Cheese, Pickles, Sauteed Peppers and Onions, low sugar ketchup

Italian Sausage and Peppers: Turkey Mild Italian Sausages with Sauteed Peppers and Onions topped with my homemade Pasta sauce and low fat cheese.

Pizza: Confession, I did actually consume a half slice of supreme pizza last weekend. I did not eat the crust. I felt ok afterwords. slightly guilty, but physically fine. Cannot make a habit of this though.

You will find new and creative ways to get similar meals that you used to love, just healthier versions of them. I find it fun to shop at different places and for different things to put together as a healthy alternative to the crap I ate before.

Is it possible to eat rice after surgery? I'm Indian and we live off rice so it's been really difficult to give up :(

Yes, it is possible. Not a thing to eat regularly but you can have some. Tonight was a special occasion. Took my wife to cheesecake factory for our first date night in 4 months. I am 2 months post op so I ordered Thai Salmon. It came with rice and veggies. I did eat less than 2 spoonfuls of the rice and only a small amount of the salmon. My wife ordered a piece of cheesecake and I had 2 small bites.

I usually say that we need to follow our instructions and watch what we eat. But I am not the type that says we absolutely have to stay within a set of lines. We are humans. We are doing the best we can and makeing the best decisions based on many different factors. I think that a few special occasions allows you a little flexibility. That said, everything within reason. This cannot become the new norm, where everything is a "special occasion". Dont let yourself fall into that poisonous way of thinking.

For now, know that you will be able to eat things again. In due time. For now, focus on getting to a point where you can have a special occasion, and not let it turn into an everyday thing.

I am 12 days post op and had a birthday party for my son.....I did well as I ordered Soup from Panera to give me an option to eat but when I carried that pizza in my car all I could do was think of the pizza. Didn't touch it and had my soup with 1/2 scoop of unflavored Unjury but wow was that pizza tempting. I am usuales a sweets person but even the cake didn't prompt such a strong craving.

Lol mmmm pizzzaaaaa.

I think we will be able to have a slice eventually. For now few bites. Not good for us but in moderation.

I had a small piece of pizza yesterday and I'm 7 weeks out. It did sit kinda heavy in my stomach. I was craving it and doc said it was ok. Now that I got that out of my system, I think I'll be able to leave it alone now.

I'm just shy of 8 weeks out, and I did this Friday night, and I agree. We had a pizza that was ordered with toppings easier on me (meatball, not pepperoni) and I had tiny bites of it, chewed well. It still made me feel crappy and gross, and I probably won't try it again for a while. However, it was a useful experiment. I'm finding in general that right now, I like my foods simpler and with more basic preparation.

I learned the same lesson, keep it simple and give it time. That's really the only craving that got to me. So far so good.

I am 5 mos out and can eat almost anything. I can eat a little slice of thin crust pizza. You'll find a few bites of your favs will satisfy you. Sweets don't even sound good to me now. I still love chip and dip. I eat like five chips and I'm done. It's so nice knowing you can't over indulge.

For everyone out there that cares to listen; please stop flirting with what brought you to this drastic decision to get surgery as a means to lose weight.

Right now you are not able to overindulge, and are probably still losing weight. That's very good but be informed, it will NOT be this way for very long. After a while, you will be able to eat more, and more often. And you WILL start to gain the weight back.

Remember, this surgery is not magic! You STILL have to follow a reasonable diet and exercise plan to keep it off. My recommendation is get used to the healthy foods and Snacks right now so when you're able to eat more it'll be healthier and less able to make you gain the weight back.

Good luck and may your journey be a pleasant and victorious one.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
