I quit all caffeine for several months, but I started drinking coffee again. Granted I haven't had starbucks or anything fancy. Just regular home coffee with a small splash of Creamer. I used to drink many cups a day, and now one cup takes me all morning to finish. I think with all things, moderation is key.

I haven't noticed any adverse reactions or stalls in my loss from this.

My doc said I could drink 1 cup a day once I started full liquids as I told her usually I like mine with milk. She said as long as it's once a day she wasn't concerned with it which is really what I used to drink before. I said are you sure it doesn't have to be Decaf and she said nope as long as I'm doing only 1. I did my first 1 week postop but had a very smaller amount than I would normally have. Also I found out you can add Protein to Starbucks coffee which was even better.

A lot of people talking about caffeine withdrawals but I don't experience them. I have given up caffeine several times and I don't see a difference, except lack of focus maybe.

I was taking one caffeine pill in the afternoon, then I went back to coffee after 6 weeks.

I went without coffee 6 weeks, then I slowly added it back it. Slowly because I have never had any acid issues, and I know coffee is acidic. I have never had GERD issues and I don't want to start. I drink cold brewed coffee for the lower acid content. No issues.

I do limit myself to 8-12 ounces. I used to drink 24-36 ounces a day before surgery. I gave up sodas and alcohol about 3 years ago, and I only had black coffee, tea and Water.

I also make an iced coffee Protein drink. I put cold brew coffee, Water, unflavored Protein and ice and my blender and I will have that sometimes in the late morning. I forget to eat a lot and if it is mid day and I haven't had anything to eat yet, I will do that to get my protein started for the day. It is a very nice change of pace.

I'm 7 days post op. By doc is just fine with caffeine. I have gone from 3-4 espressos (black, no sugar) down to just one. I get down 3/4-1 oz tiny sips at a time and then dump the rest into my morning Protein Shake. Haven't felt the need to expand caffeine intake but cold brew + Protein sounds good. I bought a bag of chike before surgery but I'm been doing almost 0 carbs/day so far and see no reason to add that in before stage 2/3.

I don't plan on reintroducing caffeine. I had to cut way back a couple of years ago, as I was having heart rhythm disturbances due to my level of caffeine intake. Since then, up until surgery, I was having one cup a day. I also had frequent headaches.

Since my surgery 10 weeks ago, I've tried Decaf twice (with my sugar-free hazelnut creamer), and it just wasn't the same. I don't mean that it was decaf, I mean the flavor altogether. No real attraction.

Now I rarely get headaches, and I'm sleeping better and waking before my alarm.

I quit caffeine about three months before my surgery. I am a year and half post op and never have reintroduced caffeine back into my diet.

I haven't felt the need for any caffeine as I have more energy now than I had all those years I was overweight and chugging down my caffeine sodas.

I work night shift and I do fine without the caffeine. Exercise gives me my energy. I go to the gym after work and even though I lose about an hour and half of sleep i feel energetic all night long- well energetic is a strong word; I can keep my eyes open all night long LOL.

my husband drinks one cup of regular coffee a day. I am still with the Decaf. Before surgery I was the Coke Zero QUEEN! I was pregnant prior to surgery so I could not have caffeine. Now, I just don't want to feed the beast.

@@dlappjr I live coffee......love whatever it's my jam! I drink it everyday....every stinking day! The only problem I have ever had is wanting to drink it and not my Water ;) I started back up again 2 months after surgery. Hi, my names Elode and I'm a coffeeholic.

I am 5 weeks post op. Before surgery, up until the weekend before surgery I drank 2 large black iced coffees a day from DD. I thought for sure I would miss coffee more than anything. I can't believe the urge is not even there. I tried a small iced last week just to see and I was completely turned off. I'm going to save so much money!! It's great! Ha!

I am a tea drinker and stopped all caffeine about two months before my surgery. I tried many Decaf teas and settled on PG Tips decaf. About six weeks after surgery I introduced caffeine again and now in the morning I drink a combo of PG Tips decaf and Tazo Chai (with caffeine) with a little bit of stevia powder. I love the flavor of the Tazo Chai and figure one caffeinated beverage a day can't be too bad.

Later in the day I sometimes have red rooibos tea (naturally decaffeinated) to break up the monotony of Water and Water with crystal light.

I've been doing the 'bucks Decaf Cappuccino with skim and 1 pump sf peppermint. Gives it a hint of flavor and it's strong enough that it doesn't taste watered down by the skim. I also drink red zinger tea that I brew and lemon zinger in the keurig. It's not regular tea but it doesn't taste nasty like decaf tea.

10 months post op still caffeine bothers my stomach. Was during 7 - 9 cups a day of full caf dark roast. My Dr actually told me that's how people start to gain weight back by drinking sugar coffee drinks or milk shakes do stay away as long as you can. Listen to sleeve. Down 110 need to lose 40 more to be not obese or overweight.

I never stopped drinking it.. my doc said as long as I'm getting all my fluids PLUS the coffee it was fine, that I was not to substitute it for other liquids, and no more than one cup a day.

I used to drink like 6 cups a day black. No lie. I was an addict.. haha. Now I drink maybe 1/4 in the mornings, just for a teeny caffeine boost. I haven't drank a full cup yet, even though I know I'm technically allowed, just because getting in all the fluids fist is my top concern.

I reintroduced caffeine 2-3 months post-op. I'm about 7 months out now and have an iced latte every morning with sugar free Syrup. I count the calories in it. I rarely have a carbonated drink even though I was a soda, and beer, junkie.. Even now I'm still kinda scared of the carbonation I guess.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
