Low Cal Snacks for Travel

Recommended Posts

I'm flying cross country on Thursday so I'm going to be spending most of the day either at the airport or on the plane. Does anyone have any suggestions of low calorie (around 100 calories) non-perishable Snacks that I can bring? I hate buying food at the airport because I'm a control freak who likes to weigh and measure as much of my food as possible.

Generally when I travel I use Protein bars for Protein. Perhaps fruit such as apples, bananas or oranges might work.

hate buying food at airport

@@Indieflickers

ANYTHING you buy at the airport is going to be sooo expensive

i agree - Protein bars are my go-to, easy snack

while you are in the airport waiting

you could buy a greek yogurt from a vending machine

stores also have good/healthy salads you could take on board

it will stay fine/cool on the plane for a couple of hours

babybel cheese from home is yummy too

no need to worry measuring the above

have a wonderful trip

holy moly

i just realized you have lost 163 lbs!!

that's wonderful!!!!

you are aces!!!

keep up the great job

for the rest of your healthier, happier, longer life

happy flying, have a great time

(unless it's business)

gotta just deal with that!!

I prefer Power Crunch bars. They have about 200 calories but you could do some walking in the airport or walk the escalator a few times to burn off some calories if you feel the need.

@@proudgrammy thanks for the suggestions! I was thinking about bringing some cheese.

@@twinhappy I've never tried those. I'm a huge fan of Quest bars so I haven't branched out much.

They sell them at Wal-mart and the Vitamin Shoppe so they are easy to find. I even found them at the gas station once! (referring to the Power Crunch bars)

@@OKCPirate I've always wanted to try Jerky. Do you recommend any particular kind?

@@Lutasha I've never had those. Are they spicy?

@@Indieflickers -I hate to say this but it's usually a impulse purchase at Whole Foods, and I got great deal on Jack's Jerky on Brad's deals.

@@Lutasha I'm such a wimp when it comes to spice. Foods that most people find mildly spicy are intensely hot to me. I have a super WASPy mouth.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
