Hot lunch ideas?

Recommended Posts

I've been a real creature of habit with my Breakfast and lunches since surgery. For lunch, I usually have an ounce or so of turkey pepperoni or deli meat and a light string cheese or Babybel (or sometimes Parmesan cheese crisps). Sometimes I'll make deviled eggs with light mayo and take 3 halves and a couple baby dill pickles.

Now that it's getting cold out, I am trying to come up with hot lunch options beyond a cup of chili. I love Soup this time of year, but most of them don't really have enough Protein for me, though I did have some lentil vegetable soup recently with some unflavored Protein powder mixed in. I try to keep my lunches to about 150 calories, with 15-20+ grams of protein.

Any ideas?

Maybe chili? You can adjust the seasonings to fit your preferences. My husband makes a wonderful chili with ground turkey and shredded rotisserie chicken. I'm not sure what all the ingredients are, but I know it has Beans, tomatoes, onions, and the meats I mentioned. For one cup, it's 172 calories, 16 grams of Protein, 3.8 grams of fat, and 18 grams of carbs (mostly from the beans).

Yeah, chili is already on my list, as I mentioned above. I make a yummy one in the crock pot with ground turkey and three kinds of Beans... but a girl cannot live on chili alone! ;)

Pinterest has tons of great ideas :-) Many days I will bake chicken or a pork roast and also roast fresh veggies. I just take some of that with me to work for lunch.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
