I just tried pull-ups again on shoulder day. Pitiful. Just pitiful. I really don't know if I will be able to do it by next February, it's that bad!

I was telling my wife how I was having a good arm workout today. So she asked for a picture while I was at the gym. Then I remembered this thread and I thought I would post it.

As you can see in the picture, I am still in love with the bands! I can do a full set of 8 of 100lbs curls with the straight bar, but there is nothing like the pump you get from the bands.

BigJnav3 and Bigviffer do you guys drink anything during your workout? I was thinking about getting some bcaa to take during mine. Just curious to see what others are taking.

I take BCAA's during the workout. It's a solid investment to help with sustaining your muscles.

Just Water for me. I don't take any supplements other than an Fiber bar pre-workout and dense Protein post. That could be chicken or a Protein Bar.

I just don't believe the marketing behind supplements since I work in advertising. I asked my surgeon (he's a lifter too) and he didn't use anything either.

I feel like I should clarify/qualify my last post.

Before all my injuries and I got really fat, I used to use supplements. Pretty much everything they said would increase my performance I took at some time. All it did was make me push myself harder to try and see results faster. This time I vowed that I would go purely old fashioned. Clean eating with slow and hopefully steady results. I don't want to try and find a shortcut because it caused ME problems last time. That may not be an issue for anyone else.

If anyone is looking at me as an example, remember this; I am only trying to live healthier and get lean. I am not going for any weight lifting nor fitness records. I want to feel good in everything I do physically. Lean and lithe is my goal. I want to be able to lift my body weight in the deadlift, squat, and at least one honest to god chin up. That's it. Set a reasonable and attainable goal and stick to it.

Something in my head kept coming back to your question, but I couldn't put my finger on it. Then I realized what it was; you are only 5-6 months post op! Dude, take it easy and take it slow. And definitely don't take any supplements without clearing it with your surgeon!

I'm not going to wag my finger or shake my head at you, but please don't get carried away this soon in the recovery. We are in this for the long haul. This isn't a race to some weird VSG finish line. And if there were a finish line, there is no trophy. So you have nothing to prove to anyone and so much to gain by playing it safe.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
