Golfer187 4 Posted October 20, 2015 Ok, when will the pain be gone. I want to start working out! This pain is really annoying me, like not enough to even take the pain meds but enough to just make me miserable. Can't cough, can't sneeze, can't work out, can't golf, can't bend over. Sorry for a drawn out whine session but just want to get back to normal!
jaxmom1974 53 Posted October 20, 2015 It really does get better.
thisfathasgot2go 235 Posted October 20, 2015 Yeah the incision pain is what I am left with too at 12 days post-op. I have learned to hold in/push in my tummy when I laugh, cought or sneeze. I have been able to sleep on my belly which is nice. I am not taking any pain meds either. I am just doing walking as my exercise. I also have pain if I pick up something or push something heavy. This is normal and I hope it goes away in the next 2 weeks before I go back to work in early November.
2goldengirl 2,076 Posted October 20, 2015 Seven days is not very long after major abdominal surgery. I know, it doesn't look like much on the the outside, but inside you've had some serious work. Don't plan on going back to the gym or golf until your sugeon says so. Golf is going to be the hardest because of the range of motion required in a swing. Putting may come first. Be patient with yourself and let your body heal. You don't say how old you are, but also remember that for every decade, you need to allow more time. We don't heal as fast in our 60's as we did in our 30's. Dammit.
nunid 2 Posted October 20, 2015 Considering that just 7 days ago you had your abdominal muscles cut in a few spots, i would let them heal for while. Just think how long it takes any wound to heal before you can apply any kind of tension on the tissue
Golfer187 4 Posted October 20, 2015 Thanks guys. I am 39. 6' male was 303 pre-op, 286 day of surgery (10-13-15) and 276 today. I understand and will not rush. Was more just looking for someone ahead of my place in my journey to give me an idea on when I would be 100% healed physically that is, lol. Thanks everyone! nunid 2 Posted October 20, 2015 My work is somewhat physical and i asked my doctor today (I'm 10 day post-op) when would i be able to return to normal physical activity including carrying 20-30 lb here and there and some climbing on ladders and such. He told me to wait about a month post op. This "about a month" rule of thumb is assuming you went through a normal healing process with no complications,
Dub 9,922 Posted October 20, 2015 Today is my 7th day. In fact I was sitting in the recovery room this time 7 days ago. There is no way I have any expectation of golf, working out or much bending over at this point, although I highly admire your enthusiasm. I can say that coughing and sneezing suck outright. I even got a reload on the pain meds yesterday due to a simultaneous abdominal hernia repair. Every day is better, but this will just take some time.
Golfer187 4 Posted October 20, 2015 Thanks dub. Guess we had our surgery the exact same time. Had mine last Tuesday at 7:30am. Luckily i did not have anything else done like a hernia. I stopped my pain meds. Sunday night was the last time I took them. It is really getting better everyday just takes time. Lol on the sneezing or coughing. I also have two boys 3 and 6 that are used to lots of playing (aka jumping on daddy!) and that has been tough for them to get used to as well. We will get through it!
