Hi There,

Anyone get single incision VSG and can comment on what restriction is like 1 year or more post-op? I am schedule to have SILS VSG with Dr. Sherman Yu in Houston, but have heard mixed things in terms of restriction. Freaking out  lol.

Can anyone please shed some light?

Thank you :)

I don't think there's a difference in type of incision used and restriction??

Honestly, I don't get the attraction of a "single incision." I've heard from people who've had it that it can be quite large. And that the scar doesn't fade as readily as the six I had, which 14 months later are barely visible. In fact, only two are even visible at all, and at the rate they're fading they'll soon be gone.

@@sleevedup - hello again! I know we've talked previously, but just wanted to add my input here to add to @@VSGAnn2014 's post. I can't give you the specific answer you're looking for since I'm only a couple months out, but I did have the exact same procedure with the exact same doctor, so if you get an answer I'd be happy to know it as well.. ;)

"Single incision" doesn't end up being one actual incision, by the way. I've got four scars total. Two very thin, very small ones mid-tummy, one very small but slightly thicker scar at the top of my belly button, and the "largest and thickest" (it isn't even an inch in length) scar to my left side of my belly button. So I partially agree with VSGAnn that it doesn't really matter having one over the other, but everyone's bodies are different, so my scars are fairly small and heal very well and quickly -- they're still a little pink right now but I bet I won't be able to see them in 14 months either with luck!

Anyway, I think the appeal is just keeping the scars to a minimum and by the navel so they could potentially be removed in a TT? I was just wanting as few slices in me as necessary, though, haha

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
