Hello from another new bandster

Hi my name is Myra and I had surgery on 5/7/07. I went to Mexico and my surgeon was Dr. Aceves, wow what a dish :kiss2: I havent had a fill yet, having only just got over the gas pains in my shoulder, they said I was still swollen and it would be bad for a fill. So far I have lost 23 pound, which I am really pleased with, and like others, I am losing inches so I am happy with that. I hope to get to know you all and find support as well as giving it.

hugs

Myra

I was wondering, you don't have to go to mexico for every fill do you? it's sounds likeyou are really kicking butt with the weight loss good job. I know some docs won't give a fill if you are losing 1-2 lbs a week. I won't go to get my first fill till the first week in Aug and I hope he gives me a fill because I feel like I can eat anything. I am not eating everything because I am only 3 weeks post op but I fell nothing when I eat my blended foods. anyway I think you will like it on the web page there is alot of good and smart people here that are very helpful. keep up with the hard work.

Hi CD

No I dont have to go back to Mexico for the fills but as it is only just over the border and it is all inclusive in the price for life I will do. I have every faith in my surgeon so the journey is well worth it to me. I live in OC anyway so we only have to drive to San Deigo and get picked up at the airport by their driver and taken there and driven back the same day. Mind you, having said that we will probably do the drive ourselves. I dont really feel like I need a fill yet as I have programmed my brain to feeling full anyway, but when I do need on I will go.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
