Hi everyone, this is my first post. I will be banded this Wed. 7/18. I'm a bit nervous. This site is very interesting you hear it all from this is great to I hate it. I'm banking on "this is great" I'm very motivated and have lost 14lbs on the pre-op diet. But that's pretty typical for me I get very motivated but I've always lacked the staying power. Will the band help to carry me through?

Hey Kathy,

I'm from Florida too. Jacksonville area. What area are you from? I'm having my surgery on July 24 at St. Vincent's hospital by Dr. Herrera. Good luck to you & me.

Kelli

Hey Kelli, thanks for the good wishes. I'm in Bradenton and will have my surgery at Manatee Memorial Surgeical weight loss center. I'm hoping for an out-patient procedure. They've said if nothing unusual comes up and I can get up and walk I can go home. How are you doing on you're pre-op diet. I'm making it but it's no picnic.

Hey tlambright, I will have my procedure at Manatee Memorial Surgical Weight Loss center. They have two doctors that always do the surgery together. They are Dr. Erbella and Dr. Bunch. The center seems to have a great support system in place. They have a lady named Kathy at the center to answer general questions, they have a dietition that we can call anytime and the hold once a month support group meetings. After reading some posts where people go to Mexico and come back to no support system I'm feeling pretty good about my support.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
