Hi all, My name is Tamiko. I am currently in the process of having the sleeve done. I'm a little scared. The whole process is scary. Does anyone else feel that way?

Hi Tamiko,

Welcome to the board! Having weight loss surgery is a life changing decision that will weigh heavily on your heart. Six months ago, I was in the same position and just as scared. However, getting sleeved has been nothing but a blessing.

As you discover this board, it's easy to be inspired as you read about all of the weight loss journeys. You may find that although our stories are unique, we all have/had similar unhealthy relationships with food and can likely relate.

Remember, you're not alone!

Of course I am a little scared. I think that if we weren't a little nervous we wouldn't be taking this seriously enough. After all, it is a lifelong commitment to a new you. But I'm worth it and so are you!

The "process" can indeed be daunting. But the results are worth the inconveniences a million times over! Once you have the surgery the long road that got you there will feel like a distant dream. ????

Welcome! I can assure you that most of us felt scared, or at least a bit overwhelmed, at some point during the process. It's totally worth it in the end though.

You'll find this site to be a wealth of information and opinions. As a newbie, I actually loved reading the threads where debate was sparked, because it gave me a good list of questions to ask my surgical team where they stood on certain topics.

Yes I am too. I started my process in August then stopped sending papers in but I have kept all of my appointments. I got scared 3 days before surgery back in 2012 and canceled my surgery for gastric bypass. I'm sad I did because then I would be in better shape now BUT I'm also glad I canceled because I know I want the sleeve 10000000% lol it is completely normal to be nervous. Let your surgeon know. My surgeon pointed me into directions for more research that I could do to make myself feel better. Just keep telling yourself that it's worth it, YOU ARE WORTH IT ????

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
