Loss over four months out?

Recommended Posts

At my last surgeon's appointment two months out from surgery, I asked how much weight they might expect me to lose when I return for my six month post-op appointment at the end of November. The nurse practitioner said she thought I could lose 60 more pounds (over the next four months). At the time that seemed like a lot, and now that I'm well into the timeline and losing an average of 10 pounds/month, it definitely seems unrealistic. I am pretty happy with my weight loss so far; I was 250 the day of surgery, and 4.5 months out, I'm at 185. Realizing that everyone is different, I am curious if 10 pounds/month seems like a reasonable amount to be losing at this point? Thanks so much for your input.

65 lbs ins 4.5 months seems great.

They sound crazy to be honest.

You're doing great. Tell they to want in one hand and sh*t in the other and see which one fills up faster!! No! Don't tell them that! I'm kidding! They are just giving you a guideline. Your body is going to go at its own speed :) keep it up!!

I think it sounds like you are doing great. I have my 3 month checkup tomorrow and have lost somewhere around 40. I start worrying that it isn't enough or "average" and then I remind myself that I am insane and 40lbs in 3 months is great!! I would be thrilled with 60lbs by 6 months. That is 12 bags of sugar.

U all are doing a great job. Doesn't matter how much your losing, as long as your losing it. Some weight is better than no weight. Congrats. Keep up the weight loss.

10 pounds per month is great. I'm an losing at that same rate a little over 6 months out. I've learned that the surgeons want the best possible result to make their stats look good. This is your life and your body. Continue to do the work and it will continue to show. The best to you!

It is good I've lost weight. Doesn't matter as long as I am losing. But, I still have a hard time eating. Yesterday all I had was supper it was 3 black olives, and 2 radishes and felt sick. Also, I started losing in July because I caught cellulitis from a wound it was massive. But, surgery was may 26

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
