Hi all, my husband and i are both having the sleeve done. Same day, same surgeon! We just started the pre-op diet today. Anyone else have the blessing of not going through this alone? Or do you think going through this together might be more difficult because we will both be in pain? Any advice would be wonderful.

My husband and I both had the sleeve done in February of this year. My husband had it on the 11th and I had it two weeks later on the 25th. It has been a great experience. We share a meal when we go out to eat, we have started going to the gym together.....i actually think it has brought us even closer as we go through this journey together !! Best of luck to you both!

Just wondering if you have kids and if so how did the weigh in your decision to have the procedures so close together?

I have 2 sons however they are 27 and 29 so they are not in living at home. They played a big part in our decision to go through with the surgery .... We want to be around to spoil any grandchildren we may have down the road????!!

Our surgeon would not do both of us on the same day. He asked us to wait at least 2 weeks between that way each of us would have someone to hep when we got home. Even though recovery wasn't horrible it was nice those first few days to have my husband able to help a little (as I did for him).

I don't know if any of this helped you.....fee free to ask any other questions or concerns.

My husband has an 11 year old daughter but she is only with us part time and she is very mature for her age :) so we didnt have to worry about kids otherwise i can imagine it wouldn't be wise to do it at the same time with young kids involved

I had several classmates from my six month program in the hospital with me at the same time. It helped being able to compare, walking laps together etc. And we still get together now.

I was sleeved on Oct 20th (4 days ago) and my husband is going in for his VSG in mid-Nov. We are excited to take this journey together. We have 2 teenage children and they have been supportive and are very independent. Quite honestly, this has been one of the hardest things I have ever done. I know the 2 week pre-op liquid diet and post-op diet will be hard on my husband as well, but with both of us doing this together I can help encourage him to get through the rough Patches. Our 20th wedding anniversary is next year and I am looking forward to celebrating it right next to him on the losers bench.????

This is great! I wish my husband had done it with me. Just watch out because men lose so much more quickly than women. Don't compare yourself. But they don't get to have babies so I think it's worth it :)

My husband and I are both sleeved 5 weeks apart! We have kids ages 12/13 at that time last year! To our kids we have what they call "baby bellies." We don't eat much and encourage each other constantly! It added to our already close marriage! We are blessed and happy! (Aug/Sept 2014). It is not easy being sleeved but it has been a great thing for the both of us!

My husband was sleeved October 13 and I'm being sleeved November 17 that's 5 weeks apart. I have a 4 1/2 yr old son, so we weren't able to do it together since one of us have to be there for him and to run the house,

I'm very scared about the sleeve since I'm a very hard and picky eater I don't like a lot of foods ( especially Yogert ) so I'm hoping it won't be to hard for me...

My husband is doing great, he lost about 55 lb since pre op. I know that woman don't loss as fast as men do... but I'm trying to stay positive and hoping for the best!????

As a woman, what has worked for me is sharing and not comparing. You will have an health event that many other people will never even be able to complete and it is life changing. Now add that you get to do this with someone you love in the same house ; it is a true gift. Don't worry just work at making good food choices. Best of luck to you both!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
