Having second thoughts

Recommended Posts

Hello, Relatively new to this forum. I was banded in Mexico on 5/4/07 and had a relatively flawless experience. I had a hard time finding a fill doc in Ohio, but have found one and did have my first 1.25cc. fill. I suppose I just need to be patient but I am not losing as I thought I would. I started out at 225 and am now 210. I am finding soooo many foods that I just can't eat. Hamburger, raw carrots, bread, (of any sort), most crunchy veggies (which I absolutely adore) and am now wondering if I made a mistake (at times). I miss eating horribly. Does anyone have any experience that is similar to mine. I HATE that sliming, spit up thing. It concerns me because I am afraid I will do something to the band. I have to eat slowly I know, but will I ever be able to tolerate most foods? Any comments, insights, or suggestions are more than welcome.

I've had to give up a few foods that I loved as well, but the trade-off for me has certainly been worth it. Maybe it is not for you. But jeez....go to any grocery store or look in any cookbook and look at all the foods out there! For me it was just a matter of finding some NEW favorites.

As far as your weight loss goes, It seems good to me! 15# in two months (for old ladies like us) isn't so bad at all! You didn't have that much to lose to begin with, so you can't compare yourself fairly to those that have 100+ to lose. Besides, it is what it is...don't fight it. Relax and enjoy the ride. Find new foods that work for you and give this band a chance. It's way to early to be having regrets.

That's my $0.02.

Terri, Thank you for the insights. I appreciate it. I felt better just reading it. I suppose you are right. I wish I could find a lap band support group in my area. Thanks for the encouragement. I just hope I don't have to give up soooo many foods. You are right about the age thing. I just doesn't melt like it used to!!!

Hang around this wonderful board for awhile. I can't imagine how the support you get from any group could be any better than this place. Besides, it's open 24/7!!! :o Welcome!

Don't have regrets... just get reading! I bet you'll even find another one in OHIO to chat with (HINT: Use the search feature on the tool bar above and type in Ohio - see what comes up for you!!!)

All my best wishes!

Kt and Terri, Thank you. Wondering Terri, thank you for the welcome! I believe this is just what I need. Also, wondering if you could tell me where to look to find instructions on here to add a ticker tape to my profile. On my way to the search Kt. Good luck on your surgery!

Here ya go... I found it a bit tricky and just blew it off. Obviously many aren't quite as idiotic as I am.

Terri, I should have ask this on the previous thread but how about all the forum info, etc. I know it is just a "click" but duh, it seems to be evading me...(normally fairly intelligent woman, go figure!)

What part of Ohio are you from Wenonah? I know there are quite a few support groups around me. I'm just able to make most becuase they're during the day. I'm near the Dayton, OH area myself.

It is normal to feel this way towards food. I miss it too. Just try and stay focused on why you had the surgery in the first place. Good luck to you.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
