Pre-op protein drink diet.... non soy? Anyone?

Recommended Posts

Hi.... getting down to the wire for sleeve surgery on Nov 10th.

I think I should get started on the liquid diet early and have longer than two weeks since I have put on weight in the last month with not eating as carefully once I decided to have the surgery.

Just wondering if any of you have used Protein Drinks that do not have soy in them? My doctor's office wanted me to use Bariatric Advantage but it has soy in it so any ideas of what would be equivalent but without soy?
Thanks !!!

I am in the minority, but I liked Isopure No Carb, you can try at GNC before buying a bunch of them. [NOTE: There are a bunch of people who can't stand this, so please try before you buy (I liked the green tea the best) and many dilute]. I also use pipingrock.com whey isolate, dissolves well no taste. For that needed chocolate craving, I use GNC's Lean shake (stevia is great).

The more popular recommendations from doctors are either whey isolates or soy isolates. I would look at the Protein, carb and sugar amounts on the Bariatric Advantage label and then search for whey isolates that have similar numbers. I too like Isopure, but there is the ever popular Premier Protein, and also other brands like EAS, Orgain organics, Muscle Milk, Syntrax nectar. I also used CVS store brand. It just takes a bit of time to read labels and then tasting to see which one you like.

ETA: Piping Rock is very pocket friendly but does use a small amount of Soy Lethicin (-1%) in it's mix. I'm not sure if you want to be 100% Soy free or not.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
