Will I have to over chew everything forever or is this just for the first few months give or take?

It gets better but it is part of the process to chew everything very well. And back to your other post, you shouldn't be chewing right now. Sorry but you have to let your stomach heal. You have to find someway of getting Protein. Have you tried adding Protein powder to your pudding that NUT allows? I use Precision Engineered whey Protein Isolate and even my non-WLS friends at work comment on how good it smells - especially the vanilla. I add the vanilla powder to yogurt (not sure if you can have that yet) and chocolate powder to my sugar free Chocolate pudding. You have to try some other brands and add stuff to them - PB2 cover a lot of flavor if you like Peanut Butter. Any of the sugar free Torani flavored syrups help a lot. Premier Protein ready shakes is like drinking chocolate milk. Try those if you haven't. And drink all of them from a cup with a lid so you are not smelling it. Keep trying.

I am just over a year out, and yes I still chew chew chew.....it was hard at first, but now it just comes natural. If not, things can get stuck, and it is awful.

I'm not chewing right now... minus the one cheese stick I had before my NUT banned it... but I'm wondering for the future. Thank you KayzeeKat for the response it helps =)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
