I have chronic asthma and lupus, along with a list of other disorders. Since my surgery on December 15, 2014, my lupus flare ups have become more frequent and my breathing has been bothering me which makes me use my oxygen more. Well, almost two weeks ago, my doctor put me on a prednisone sliding scale. The first three days of the five day treatment went great, then the next day all my symptom returned full force. So going back to the doctor this past Friday, he doubled my dosage and extended my treatment for 10 more days.

I have already gained 2 lbs on the five day treatment and I'm scared as hell about what will happen on this 10 day treatment.

Has anyone taken prednisone after having surgery and did you gain any weight and how did you lose it?

Hi I took a 10 day course after an asthma attack. I knew it was going to have an impact. I just decided I had to roll with it. Let it do its job to get you well then focus on removing any weight gain. You know it will come off. It may just slow you down a week or so. Good luck!

Odd, Prednisone is on the list of medications I can never take again in my life.

Steroids are on my list of mess I can't take. I'd check with your surgeons office.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
