Insurance Mandatory Pre-Op Diet

Recommended Posts

Hi!

I'm officially on the mandatory Dr. supervised diet for insurance purposes. How much did you lose during this part of the process? What happens if you don't lose? Will insurance deny the surgery? I'm eating well and getting my 10,000 steps a day, but not seeing much movement on the scale.

Thanks!

Congratulations on your journey. I had to lose 5% of my weight. For me it was surgeon required to prevent problems during surgery due to large liver. It is for your own safety and better surgical outcome. My surgeon had a disclaimer that if I did not lose he could refuse operating on me. Not sure of the insurance aspect though. Just follow the diet and you should lose, it is hard especially knowing where you are headed but keep trying. Good luck!

I did the kaiser mandatory 3 month pre-op diet.

From my first class on Jun 16 to my surgery date of Oct 7, I lost from 225 to 196.

No liquid diet.

Just walking 30 minutes 5 days a week and eating 1200-1400 calories a day.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
