My wife is 20 days out post Op and all of a sudden, she's having huge acid reflux issues. She's into her third week and we feel like we can't introduce the the next stage of the diet plan given to us by the doctor. I'm concerned she won't be able to eat and even thought she's taking nexuim twice a day (80g), this is not helping the acid reflux. Would be grateful if anyone can offer any advice of the causes or what foods to avoid, would really appreciate it! Thanks in advance

Call the doctor and have them prescribe a prescription strength PPI. Avoid any acidic foods: citrus, coffee, Tomato based. Stand up or walk after each meal.

Thank you so much for all your help. I made the mistake of giving her lemon drink and coffee in this past week, prior to this, acid was never an issue, so based on your kind advice, we will avoid all the things mentioned.

Also avoid chin to chest - playing on phone or iPad for more than 10 minutes at a time and avoid laying down after eating - if she is getting acid feeling in throat. I take prescription and I still suffer , I am eating but need to be careful of bite sizes chewing and texture on top of avoiding all the citric , acid foods , so now I take Pickle Juice Zantac and my PPI - some days are better than others and a I am patiently waiting for this to be over

Apple juice or apple vinegar helps me. I try to drink apple juice everyday on top of my PPI.

I found lots of meds from the doctor helped along with tiny frequent meals of stomach coatimg foods like greek yogurt and higher ph waters... good luck! My acid reflux was awful.... most awful pain ever for weeks and then the meds kicked in... next step ph test in november.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
