I'd keep drinking that juice, personally. I'm not much of a fruit eater post-op as my restriction is too tight. I would (and do!), however, Water it down. Start with 25% Water to 75% juice and get yourself to 50/50. It still tastes great, much less sugar and you can up your intake to double what you're drinking now if you are so inclined.

I water down juice and Gatorade for myself and my family. Saves $$, too.

As far as losing too fast? I'd tell him to suck it and keep doing your thing...

I agree with the posts above mine about...."who's to say what's losing too fast?" I've never seen a rule book that states you can ONLY lose so much weight in any given amount of time. It sounds like you are doing everything right for you! GO YOU!

Here is my take on being obsessive at the gym...for what ever its worth.

I have met with sleevers that have an amazing fitness levels. One was a 60 year old woman that has worked up to riding her bike across the state of Iowa. She also competes in the senior Olympics here in Boise. I have learned that things look a bit different when your fitness level is above the norm. The way you fuel your body, your intake of Protein is increased..etc. I am amazed that my dietitian had no information on this.. My team has a one size fits all generic answers. I rely on the senior members at this point.

jenn1 ... I've found that the 3 nutritionists I've seen who are connected with my surgeon's bariatric program are either ignorant of anything other than advising diabetics how to manage their diets or they're just plain lazy.

I've learned so much about nutrition since being sleeved, but none of my new knowledge came from the "bariatric nutritionists" I've met.

By way of compensation, my surgeon, his bariatric P.A. (big kudos!), his bariatric nurse, and my shrink are very knowledgeable about all things bariatric, so I'm better served by them than many WLS patients seem to be by their medical teams.

My concern with fruit juices is similar to yours. They can be a gateway drug to sweets. You may want to play around with it and come up with a workable compromise. I like grapefruit juice. I know most people don't but I have an unusual palate. Once a week on Sunday's I have a proper Breakfast and I'll have 4 -6 ounces.

Did you tell your doctor your past history if rapid weight loss?

Either way. You now have key items to monitor. Overall it sounds like you are doing well.

Yup, juice is definitely a gateway for me. Only juice I drink occasionally is Apple, but I Water it down a lot so I don't get used to the sweetness.

I appreciate that Jenn, I'm only obsessive because it's the only thing I have ever excelled at, I can't run and walk much because of my knees, I'm waiting to lose another 40lbs to get a mountain bike, and my kayak, but weight training has for some weird reason come very easy to me, and because of circuit machines I can get my knees going fairly well, this time around I can see the effects of the training and every time I do I want to go further, I can now see muscle increase and definition, it drives me to do more, it also helped that I have recently read articles that debunk the myth that you can't get bigger muscle after 50, you can actually and have better chance because you are more apt to be disciplined, but it takes longer and you need to have recovery time for your muscles, I don't think that my surgeon sees this side often since he said he wished more of his patients took it serious like me, but because of my knowledge on body building and years experience I won't be changing it anytime soon, atleast he understood why I told him my Protein intake above average, I won't have a body builder physique, but I also won't be gaunt, which is a big fear for me since I hate the lean look........(for me)

I go 3 times a week also, I'm 51 and i have to give my body time to heal, I'm in for an hour and a half to almost two hours, I am on a new program, aerobic weight training, it's like speed golf but with weights, a and its fun, I just finally mastered it two weeks ago, but I maxed out last Wednesday on the circuit curl machine @ 90lbs X 4, so soon I will break my PB on the the free weights of curling 90lbs, I try to pace myself because since I started going again I've injured myself twice, but I'm being patient and steady, good luck to you.......

@@laguerr13 - debunk the myth that you can't get bigger muscle after 50

Who started that myth? Pfft. I'm doing things at 52 that I couldn't do in my 20's. And now that I have the wisdom to put these things in perspective, I highly recommend them.

I can see it already - my downfall will be my love for grape juice :D - and not white grape either... I don't like many juices because they taste to sweet for me or are apple juice-like which I really really don't like.

I like fruit, but can never seem to eat it before it goes bad - I'll probably have to start cutting it up into pieces that I can pick at when I want to eat it.

Try ProtiDiet liquid beverage concentrate in grape and/or grape crystal light. They aren't exactly Welches but pretty close.

@@laguerr13 It is amazing how everyone's surgery program is different. After my surgery I was told I could have fruit juice (Apple juice and Cranberry) they even gave it to me in the hospital however, I had to dilute it with Water.(I am 7 weeks out). So at the time, I would do 2-6oz of juice and dilute the other 1/2 with Water and I was fine. I also had juice during my liquid stage diluted with water so that your not consuming so much sugar.

Now I am 7 weeks out my NUT said that it was ok to have 4 oz of juice if I wanted before Breakfast but just not consume it everyday. You mentioned "feeling regular" did you know that benefiber has packs made for water bottles? I add crystal light and benefiber to my water daily and it keeps me regular(TMI I know but trying to help).

Thanks!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
