I did it! I actually went through with the surgery... Oct 14th

Recommended Posts

My surgery went perfect. They said there was no complications and that I am healing well. Yesterday was the first day after my surgery and it was very hard. I was in a lot of pain and had terrible heartburn which caused more pain and nausea. But they kept me in the hospital until they figured out the right medicines to give me. This morning I woke up like a whole new person! I am still sore where they cut my stomach but it's nothing I can't handle. I am just worried about getting all my fluids in. it seems like and impossible task to drink so much Water when my stomach can only handle a tiny sip at a time!

Congratulations and welcome to the other side!

Just keep sipping and walking. It seems impossible to get everything in but it gets easier every day.

Awesome !!!!!

You done did it !!!!! :P

Well done. The sipping has become easier for me every day. Now I have to make sure I keep the glass filled with ice and topped off with Water or else I tend to gulp it down (old habits). It's become second nature to have the glass beside me.

I hope you progress well.

You probably already know this, but stay away from the scale for a while. It seems there is a predictable weight gain during our surgeries and hospital stay (IV fluids doing their thing, inflammation Fluid gain, etc). Just stay strict on the diet and know that it'll all flush out in due time.

Great job. You've taken a big step towards becoming healthy. Doing so at a young age is outstanding. Your life will be fun and exiting and HEALTHY. Awesome !!!!

I was also very worried about getting enough liquids. I tend to be a bit OCD but my method worked for me. I sat in my chair with a pad and pencil and my iPhone timer. I set the timer for fifteen minutes and when it went off I sipped an ounce of Water from the one ounce cups of water from the hospital and reset the timer. When I finished the water I wrote it down. That gave me 4 oz of water every hour. Doing this for 12 hours gave me my required 48 oz. This might seem extreme but it relieved my anxiety about getting dehydrated. After a few days I was able to handle more than one ounce every 15 minutes so I felt more comfortable to stop tracking for dehydration.

It seems impossible now but there is a light at the end of the drinking tunnel! Lol every day your inflammation goes down a little more to make more room for fluids and eventually food.< /p>

Just a head's up, week 3 sucks. The whole first month sucks, but especially week 3 for some reason. Trying to get in your Water sucks. Heartburn sucks. Puréed food sucks.

It's all just a phase, though, and you will get through it.

It's an amazing journey! Welcome to a whole new world....

My surgery is coming VERY soon (Oct. 20), so browsing the board has been a great way to get ready. Congrats on your first steps - I envy you right now!!!

My first 3 or 4 days sucked, like @@LipstickLady says above. My first 3 weeks, however, did not suck. I walked A LOT. We went to a park and walked 3 miles every day beginning at day 4, and I had the most wonderful, enjoyable recovery. I think if I had layed around the house, I may not have had the experience I had. But this is just me. I can only speak for myself. Congratulations to you for choosing to be healthy!! I am always inspired by the people just having surgery and posting their experiences. It takes me back to my early experiences, which, I wouldn't trade for anything.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
