mini binge - anyone else?

I am almost 10 weeks post surgery. I have been doing really well - eating the right foods, being mindful of my new satisfied/full feelings...but tonight was a different story. I had a pretty big slice of cake. It didn't really even taste good - and I know I was full but continued to eat. I feel awful - not physically but really unhappy with my decision to do that. I was hoping that I would get some type of physical reaction to remind myself that my system is no longer capable of processing and handling that type of "food". And, in the past, when on a "diet", once I allowed myself something "restricted" then that was pretty much the end of a somewhat successful weight loss attempt. I know this may sound silly but I feel like I have already gained weight. I have a wonderful supportive husband but am too embarrassed to tell him what I did. And yes, I am planning to tell my therapist during my next appointment. But in the meantime, I had to get it off my chest and share this with you all.

Has this happened to anyone else? If so, how did you make sure that it wasn't the beginning of returning to poor eating habits?

None of us are perfect at this. Sounds like you are on top of the behavior change. You acknowledged that you slipped up. Now you are back on your program. 39 pounds down! woohoooooo Don't look back. keep moving forward. you are doing great.

I had posted something similar a couple of days ago under "help-scared" because the same thing happened to me.

I am only 4 weeks post op and I was eating candy and Cookies for 3 days. Today I did not.

We've been in such a restrictive mode and it's bound to happen that we want sugar. In fact, I want to find a healthy way to incorporate it into my eating. I'd rather have it planned for than episodes where I go overboard and then feel bad. So many people write about not having anything sweet after WLS and I just don't think that is sustainable. If you build it into your plan in a healthy way and don't make it a "bad" food I think it is much less likely that you will end up eating in an out of control way. And this way you can plan for something really good- not bad tasting cake.

Don't be too hard on yourself! Yes you have to be diligent but you also have to be kind to yourself, and forgiving. Feeling bad and ashamed is not going to get you where you want to be. Give yourself encouragement and compassion and you can do this!

Keep healthy treats around so when you have a treat it isn't a big deal.

It's not that you don't have sweets or planning them. It planning healthier alternatives the "occasional" not so healthy treat really and truly is occasionally.

To be honest, in my opinion I had this surgery so I wouldn't be completely depreived of food like I am on the diets that I always use to

Go on, I say moderation if you feel like eating something sweet you should, but maybe once in two weeks or something idk

I think as long as you are winning the battle 99% of the time you'll be fine.

That's my approach any way. We're not perfect...I know I'm not! ????

My birthday was a week ago, and I got mini cupcakes to bring to a friend's party, to share to Celebrate. I planned to have one. I ended up having one, plus the icing off a second one, plus part of a third one, which I then spit out because I was feeling queasy. Total sugary food was less than 4 tablespoons (they were tiny cupcakes). So, stuff happens.

As far as sweet things, I recommend Hunts or Jello sugar free *pudding*. I like the Hunts because it has a thicker texture. I bought a tiny spoon I use with it -- it's a salt spoon, and holds a tiny bit. It takes me a while to work through one of those pudding cups, but I feel when I do that I've had full on dessert. :-)

This was so refreshing to read! I've had a bad few days myself! So glad I'm not alone!! We've all come such a long way it's nice to know we are not alone!!!

I've often wondered when the point would come that I would start craving my old stand by's ...

you know the Cookies, the cake, the brownies, etc .... but 15 weeks out ... that hasn't happened yet ... THANK GOD ...

I've often thought that it won't happen as a craving from my body because of the Ghrelin that was in my tummy part that was removed during surgery ...

I think that it would be more of a "mind" craving ... if that makes sense ...

I know that I've not had any sugar since the 2 week pre-op diet ... so that is 17 weeks total as of now ... and I'm very thankful for that ...

I keep telling myself if I do dare indulge ... that may be the end of my story ... as @ForLfKlovr said ... in past diets once it got started, that was the end of it ... ( end of the diet )

so I stay as far away from the old goodies as possible ... and even if I do run into them ... I'm on "auto off" ... seems to be the best course of action for me ...

I do like that we are NOT perfect ... no one is ... and we WILL mess up ... most important thing to remember is ... we are HUMAN ... fall off the wagon ... but get right back on ... :)

This happened to me once with brownies. Luckily it made me sick so it provided negative reinforcement...now whenever I see one I definitely don't want anything to do with it!

i had a carb binge last night - some crackers, a couple of biscuits and a slice of bread - total about 350 calories. I had no idea why I did it - until this morning and it was that time of the month - I forgot about the carb cravings just before TTM since it's been so long as i had been on the Depo shot that stops them.

l will have to watch out for that again in the future and manage it better/realise why i'm craving what i'm craving. I suppose it's an improvement on family sizes chocolate bars at that time of month that i used to do! :) I will have to find some sugar free pudding or something when it hits!
