Celebrating my friends birthday tomorrow. We are going to Mexican food place and painting with a wine. They do not know about my WLS. What can I have to kind of blend in, besides Water. I'm only 1 week post-op.

The closest Mexican Restaurant to me Is Las Fuentes. They have three Soups. The mildest is Sopa de Pollo which is just a chicken with light vegetable Soup. You could probably tolerate the broth from that. If your restaurant has a Mexican custard dessert, you might squeek by a bite or two if you have transitioned into purees, but keep in mind it will have sugar in it.

You could jucs tell them you are being extra kind to your tummy this week because of reflux. If they push it, tell them it's personal. What else would you like to talk about?

When I was two weeks out I had to go to a dinner with a major presidential candidate, and they "honored" me by putting next to his wife. I just worked it out with the event staff at the hotel to make sure I had nothing but Soup and Water. No big deal.

"Gosh I had a late lunch... I just want some Soup or something". People really never notice that much once the food gets there. We all just focused on eating and conversation!

Honestly, you are doing more than I would.

I'm not deviating from list of things I can have for any reason.

I'd stay home and play sick. I know that's a bad answer but I'm being honest.

One week out sounds dicey. You may not even feel up to it.

Tell them you are on the Atkins diet and can't eat Mexican since it has too many carbs. Take your Protein Shake, ask for a Water and enjoy the birthday. You don't have to tell everyone you had wls just because your diet is different.

At 1 week post-op I was on Clear Liquids. You could see if they have a tortilla Soup and just eat the broth.

You know the fatigue at one week out may be more of a tell that you had surgery than the food choices. I'm rethinking my previous position. I'm going with the "bag it" crowd.

Great ideas! Thanks and I think I will go and use it as a learning experience, besides I can't not go since I/m hosting it. Maybe I will try a broth based Soup if they have one, but if not will do my shake, Can't wait till the soft food stage.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
