Miserable in need of some great help

Recommended Posts

I too was sleeved on 10/7. Are you taking anti-acid meds? Are you burping and gassing regularly? When you burp or gas, do you feel relief in your chest area? Have you been having bowel movements?

I am only on liquids, not food at this time, so most of my Protein is coming in the form of Premier Protein drinks and Isopure clear Protein Drinks and a yogurt daily.

What does your surgeon say?

You're probably still very swollen and the main thing is to get fluids in so you don't dehydrate.

I drank a whole lot of chicken bullion and ate sugar free popsicles in the early days. The popsicles seemed to help to get the swelling down.

I got some nutrition shakes for diabetics that worked out well for me in the the beginning (in the pharmacy section of most grocery stores), because I found anything with sugar would make me throw up.

Contact your doctor's office to discuss too. They might have some ideas of other Protein sources/mixes/drinks you haven't tried yet.

Have you tried switching Proteins? You may also need to really dilute them down. Sometimes it's a matter of trial and error. Keep at it, even if you have to take a sip then wait a minute, and stay in communication with your medical team.

When I was on full liquids I began taking homemade Soups and stews, running them through the blender, thinning them out with broth and adding unflavored or chicken flavored Protein powder.< /p>

I also take ricotta cheese, Greek yogurt, vanilla and sweetener and blend it up into a base for my shakes. Then I make up my Protein shake and dilute it with almond milk. Then I put a lot of ice in it. It seems like the thinner and colder it is, the easier it is to get down.

My favorite Protein flavors are chocolate Mint, pumpkin Pie Spice, and Grapefruit made with Crystal Lite Lemonade. Shoot, I will even make up a vanilla Protein Shake and add some sugar free Pistachio pudding powder.

Now that I am close to two years, I still volunteer to drink several shakes a week because The ricotta / yogurt mix makes them taste GOOD. When I was first post-op and Miss Tummy was still swollen and mad, I did indeed have to dilute everything to get it down. Now I can drink the consistency of a regular milkshake. Hang in there It does get better.

Try adding more Water to your Protein. Im not a fan of the thick Protein Shakes, so I mix my protein with 24 oz of water. Doesn't matter how much water you mix in as long as you are drinking it all. Also, try different brands of protein. Good luck!

Are you taking Zofran? I only had my surgery on Monday but I don't think I could keep the nausea at bay and get my liquids down without the Zofran.

Yes I learned if I make everything really cold it's better to go down but now that I'm on soft Proteins I face constant heartburn and acid reflex the meds don't work

Which meds? My surgeon had me on a prescription for 40mg Omeprazole (Prilosec) and that kept the hearburn and reflux in check for me.

Its famotidine 20mg

I would call and ask about getting a prescription for a PPI (proton -pump inhibitor) instead. Famotidine is an H2 blocker, which are meant more as reactionary, rather than preventative. A PPI would reduce the production of acid in the first place.

Saw my PCP & officially started my 6 month supervised diet 07/26/24. She just told me to eat less carbs & sugar, use the air fryer and not fry my foods in grease, and to try to walk 30 minutes 3 days a week & if I can't do that (and I cannot), to walk 10 minutes daily. Told me to walk fast enough that my heart rate is raised.  She didn't give me a number as far as calories though. A year or so ago I was doing low carb/sugar free and keeping my calories at 1800 or below. She said I should up my cals to 2000 at that time, so that's what I'm shooting for now.
Hubby walked with me today. He's in pretty bad shape so I was surprised he wanted to. We walked down the gravel road at a pretty good pace (for us LOL). 10 minutes walking and my heart rate was 115bps according to my Fitbit and 125bps according to his pulsometer. Either way, it was elevated and I was breathing hard. Doesn't sound like a lot, but it's a start. We'll do it again tomorrow. 😁
I should be hearing from the surgeon soon. She said if I didn't, to call him next week. Since I HAVE to do the 6 month diet & that's going to put me into January by the time it's done, I'm hoping the surgeon will let me do all my testing in January. I don't want to do it all now and have my deductible get met, only to have to pay the deductible again in January or February for my surgery. Praying that things go the way I hope. 🙏
