High blood pressure

Recommended Posts

Hey all! Had my surgery 10/13 and feeling ok so far. I'm home and just a little sore, walking and sipping as much as possible.

I'd hoped to come off my blood pressure meds as soon as I was discharged, but that has not been the case. I'm a little discouraged and disheartened and really hoping that it's just taking its good old time resolving itself. Any suggestions/similar issues. Thanks and I hope you're all going well!

Was on two BP medicines, came home off of both but on the first day home, my BP started creeping up and I got that feeling like when I would forget to take my meds... heart beating hard/fast. So I'm back on the atenolol for now and will continue to monitor my BP. I'm ok with it though as I'm sure I'll eventually come off of it as I continue to lose weight... as you will too!

My Surgeon took me off my Atenolol due to the fact that it is a long lasting medicine and the way our new systems absorb medicines.

Just a thought.

I came off within two weeks then went back on 2 weeks after that. In June, 9 months post op I discovered I now had sever!y low blood pressure and low heart rate and came off for good. My blood pressure now runs normal to low.

The more weight you take off, the closer to a normal blood pressure you will get. You do have to be a little patient with this one but monitor closely. I waited too long and ended up in the ER after passing out in June. That is when we discovered I now run low.

Good luck and congrats!

My doc waited 2 months to pull me off BP meds, after losing about 25 lbs. since then I have been monitoring my BP and it usually runs in the 110/88 range. If you can keep a log of daily BPs and when you see a downward trend talk to your doc. Congrats on the surgery!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
