Pre-Op Liquid Fast: Bad Day 6

Recommended Posts

I just needed to release the tension I have today. Every other day has been pretty good, even the first day. But today? Hell. I am so irritable right now and I would just like to eat something...or someone... Or just some form of meat or carb ( bread, Pasta, etc). Please tell me this gets better! Or that my life is just that pitiful that my happiness is based somewhat on what I can eat! The struggle is real and it's eating at me and I'm jealous!

Hang tough. Yes, it's real and it sucks. But it's very temporary. The payoff is so so so worth it.

Just think some people had to do it for 6 weeks , I don't know how they did it though , I had to for 2 weeks drink LOTS of Water like constantly till you feel water logged , however just for me I did ask my Surgeon & I did 2 Protein Shakes a day for 2 weeks & a salad for dinner with VERY little ground chicken or ground turkey dressing was white distilled vinegar & lemon juice VERY little to my liking takes some getting used to , so just a suggestion ask your Surgeon also at the time I couldn't stand plain water but I got used to that also however I now & then was able with the suggestion from MY Surgeon to add lemon or lemon juice NO SUGAR though , so either YOUR SURGEON will say yes or no for YOU but for ME I know it paid off, also hopefully they gave you the Pre op diet & post op diet instructions SO many people don't get them , if not ask or look them up, good luck.

@@sweets27 you just described what it was like for me as well.

Started off well and then reached a point one day where I thought I was going bonkers.

Someone on here suggested I try powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury chicken Soup flavored Protein powder. Turns out that it was a great move getting some of that. The flavor was great. Having some Soup to eat was a huge plus. I did put some Mrs Dash in it along with fresh ground pepper and felt like I was having a gourmet meal. No kidding. Retained my sanity.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
