My husband came up with a great idea the other day. I was once again lamenting the fact that so many WLS patients seem to be clueless about the post-op guidelines. So, my husband thought of this brilliant suggestion. Remember those little Tamagothchi/DigiPets from the 90's? The ones you where you had to feed and care for your "pet" or else they died? Well what if they made a version of those for WLS patients and required us to use them for 2-4 weeks pre-op. We would have to give our "pet" enough Protein, Water, and Vitamins and "walk" them a few times a day. That would force people to become very familiar with their post-op routine and making sure they met all their nutrition and activity goals on a schedule.

Even easier, create an app. Most of us have smartphones. Instead of yet something else we need to by for post-op life an app in both android and iOs could work. It could be set up so that we had to download and set it up with out NUTs so it's set up to our own individual needs.

I hope I didn't just give away the creation of Facebook 2.0, but there ya' go!

I love it! Although I should confess that I never could keep mine alive for very long. And I took it very hard. ????

Great idea really. I wish I were app savvy and could do it myself.

That is a very creative idea and quite funny too when you compare what you needed to do to keep the virtual pet alive.

I think my weight problem stemmed from my mimicking how Pac-Man ate.

Haha...I love it! If you really wanted people to get the message, you could set it up so you have to give your little bariatric pet sips and bites. And then give them Oregon Trail type messages like:

"Oops, you gave your pet too many sips, too fast! He's taking nausea medicine and praying he doesn't throw up."

"Your pet didn't take enough sips today. He has a headache and feels weak."

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
