donnamarie_RNY 8 Posted October 15, 2015 Only on day three and surgery not until 10/27, I'm already feeling so sick of this liquid diet. I emailed my nutritionist to ask about having veggies (even non starchy ones would be better than what I have now) but I still haven't heard back from her. I'm allowed to have 4 oz portions of egg beaters or whites and those are sadly the highlight of each day. I'm miserable. Even if I could have some boiled cabbage I would be happy! Any one have any ideas on anything to help make this horrible two weeks of misery not be so bad?
AnnainOK 49 Posted October 15, 2015 cabbage isn't considered a veggie?
donnamarie_RNY 8 Posted October 15, 2015 It is but I'm not sure if I can have any veggies. I'm waiting on my nutritionist to email me back.
kissalvoe 3 Posted October 15, 2015 You're lucky you're allowed anything else. I'm on a strict liquid only diet until my Oct 27th surgery date. The only thing that helps me is when I can blend fruit into my water-blended Protein stakes. It's really mind over matter. I've had to do this twice because I'm a failed Lap Band patient. I hope they get back to you soon about the veggies.
donnamarie_RNY 8 Posted October 15, 2015 Good luck with everything this time around. My surgery is also the 27th. I hope they get back to me too. It's very difficult especially at night when I'm cooking dinner for the rest of my family. You're lucky you're allowed anything else. I'm on a strict liquid only diet until my Oct 27th surgery date. Dub 9,922 Posted October 15, 2015 I can tell you with absolute certainty that it gets real easy to follow after surgery. Zero hunger, zero cravings. Just hang in there and deal with it. The pre-op diet will make your surgery safer. coffee helped me during that phase....black with Splenda. It helped to squash the hunger and desire for other stuff. Lipton Diet Peach Tea was another trick that worked wonders. Crystal Light grape flavor was my real secret weapon. The stuff is awesome and it worked towards keeping me hydrated. I had a gallon of it along with tons of Water on my last day prior to surgery. Hang tough. Take control of the cravings and own it. You'll do great and the time will pass. Stay full of fluids. maryann~arreola 1 Posted October 15, 2015 All I can say is that it's mind over matter. I found the first 3 days hard as heck but now on day 4 in finally feeling like myself again!!! I started messing around with my shakes, added 1% milk instead of water....that was ok by my nutritionist. Also adding fruit helps, more filling. You're lucky to have egg beaters in your allowed foods, mine is our liquid...nothing else. Hang in there and good luck!
SleeveandRNYchica 1,155 Posted October 15, 2015 I am on day 9 and was struggling. Went to last preop appt and like that my NUT said I can have no starchy veggies and broth! I felt like I hit the food lottery!!! Am on Bariatric Advantage shakes and bars (yuck!)
Lynn Blue 0 Posted October 15, 2015 They say day 4 it starts getting easier. My 2 week "liver shrink" diet was a Protein Shake for Breakfast, 1 for lunch and a lean cuisine for dinner. Also I was allowed 3 high Protein 100 calorie Snacks a day. Stick with it. It is soooo worth it in the end! Keep your eye on the prize!

I felt like I hit the food lottery!!! Am on Bariatric Advantage shakes and bars (yuck!) I'm hoping that my NUT says I can have veggies. It's the texture that's really driving me crazy. And the chewing sensation. If I could eat eggs all day I would. Best of luck to you!! When is your surgery? They say day 4 it starts getting easier. It's the complete opposite.
