I think buyer's remorse is a feeling many get. What has let you to regret your decision?

Only that I didn't do it sooner, but really I wasn't ready before now.

I think the sleeve is probably the least regret provoking surgery just because you end up not that different from most people. You can still eat things just in very small amounts.

It is normal to be nervous or worried. This is major surgery no matter how easy the recovery might be and no one should take it lightly.

I will be honest, I was scared but the thought of death was scarier. The only regret is that I didn't do it sooner but I would do it again. I am 9 month's out and the surgery saved my life.

Any doubt's I had in my mind were mostly because people kept telling me I did not need it, I look fine, I can lose it on my own. I am only 8 days post-op now but so far I do not regret it yet.

You are changing your life in a radical way. Many things that were comfortable or familiar are changing. That is a scary process and regret is a normal reaction.

But you had the courage to take the first steps. Just keep taking those steps. As for not being able to do it alone, only a small percentage of folks can. Big deal! You made a choice to live a different, healthier life and more power to you. We all have moments of regret, the key is to see past them. So far, I am discovering this was the best gift I ever gave myself and in my now much smaller gut I know that feeling will only get stronger.

You might find some people immediately post-op that are regretting their decisions, but after those first weeks, those with regrets seem to be a very small percentage of the population on this forum. I had some reservations about the surgery (hence my joining this site in 2007 and not having surgery until 2015), but from reading a ton of posts, even those with pretty significant complications in the beginning say they would go back and do it all again.

And, like you, I had several times where I thought I'd give it one more shot "on my own." Which always resulted in 25-30 pounds of weight loss, followed by a regain + another 5-10 pounds on top of it. There's no shame in admitting you need help with this aspect of your life.

I never regretted this for one single minute. Nor do I think it's a waste of $$$ or an indication of lack of self control. We are dealing with multiple factors: genetics, health issues and diseases and addictions. Know when you need help is not a sign of weakness, it's a sign of strength. If we could all do this on our own the need for this surgery wouldn't exist and everyone in the world would be at an idea weight. This surgery isn't magical. You still have to work at. What it does do is give you a chance to relearn how to eat and actually overcome the many roadblocks that have prevented you from losing weight on your own.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
