Losing weight on one side?!?!

Recommended Posts

Hey there. I am 5 weeks post-op and down a total of 40 pounds. I've noticed that it seems like I'm only losing weight on my left side when it comes to my stomach area. Everywhere else looks normal, except for my tummy. Anyone else experience this?!

Nope, but I think it will equal out. I base this on studies of tennis players. You would expect their service arm to be significantly different than the other. Not true. It will be fine in the long run barring anything completely unexpected.

@_telia_- BTW, great job. Down 40 pounds is no small accomplishment. And one that should be celebrated.

Most of that is probably still residual swelling from surgery. It will even out eventually.

My right leg is shrinking faster than my left (and my left has been larger than my right for a long time anyway). I don't think there is a predictable way we lose weight in the short term. I happen to believe that one of the reasons we have stalls, is so our body can redistribute our fat.

What are you guys doing to lose weight this quick? I am 2 weeks out and I feel as if I hit a stall. I am still on full liquids.< /p>

Please do not compare yourself with other people.

You will hit a stall about three weeks after surgery.

Just focus on getting in all your Protein and fluids and stay off the scale!

Are u exercising? That's good progress. I'll be 5 weeks Friday. I'm 30 down. ????

I walk 30-45 mins a day. I am also a teacher, so I am on the move all day. Just getting all my Protein and liquids in everyday.

Well done my dear, well done!

I continue to stick to the plan and keep hope alive. Still no movements since week 2 when I lost 20lbs. I am at week 6. So a 1 month stall??? Very worried but trusting the process.

I don't think I lost it only on one side, but I do think I have always been uneven. My plastic surgeon says everyone is. As I lost weight, it became more pronounced. I had plastics, and I'm still uneven. My right leg is bigger than my left, so I'm going to have a little more plastics to even them out. It drives me crazy because my pant leg is always tight on my right leg!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
