What if what made us fat keeps us fat?

Recommended Posts

That is why sugar addicts generally do better with Gastric Bypass.....sugar and fat make them very will (dumping is vomiting, sweating, fainting, etc)....a few dumps and you won't just won't do it any more. Banding works well for volume eaters but you have to choose what to put in your pouch. However....GB is good for most people only about 18-24 months - the hope is by that time you'll have changed your habits and kicked your addiction (dream on). LapBand is good forever as long as you make good choices in your intake.

Let me tell you as a living breathing sugar addict, you can curb that too with lap band. Here is how:

When eating your fat for the day, choose good olive oil and lots of Omega 3. IF you get in your protien and do this, your sugar craving will actuallly be quelled. I didn't eat sugar for over a year doing this. It worked. If I was low on that the craving tried to sneak in and I adjusted my Protein and good fat and it went away. Never say never.......

I'd be willing to try that.

Besides say.. cooking in olive oil, how do you get your 'fats in' with Omega 3 and olive oil? Any examples?

:cry So I am reading about head hunger....I am 3 weeks out and I am still trying to understand what my body is telling me. Sometimes I will be watching TV or drive by a fast food place and want to stop...would that be considered head hunger?

Is your stomach actually hungry? Or are you just 'wanting' to eat?

I had my band put in 1/31/2007. I still struggle with head hunger but I can only eat half (or less) of what I used to eat. My binges are nothing compared to what they used to be. I have lost about 80 pounds but know it would be more if I didn't give in to the head hunger. I still have cravings and struggle. I wish I knew how to reduce it but I just do the best I can, one day at a time. It helps to know others struggle with the same thing, though.

Thats a hard one for me, I would have to assume that if my tummy was hungry I would have been hungry before I saw it. But it feels the same to me

There is an Omega3 supplement called Coromega. I get it at Super supplements or Pilgrim's Nutriton. It comes in 3 flavors: orange, orange with a hint of chocolate or lemon-lime. It comes in a little packet like ketchup, it's the consistency of pudding, and doesn't taste too bad. I take my Multi-Vitamin or Calcium right after to get the taste out of my mouth. It is 2 grams of fat and 20 calories. I take one packet a day.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
