1 Day post operation from vertical sleeve!

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone! I had my sleeve done yesterday. Yesterday was a rough day with some vomit. Today is better with pain meds and sipping much slower as well as being able to hold some fluids down. They say the first day is the worst day so hopefully everything goes uphill from here. GAS IS NO JOKE AT ALL! WALK WALK WALK! I have never wanted to burp and pass gas so freakin bad! LOL! Watch this video. I am looking for this trophy to be mine next. I know it will help me feel so much better!http://youtu.be/U2J60QsaV1s

I think many of us have longed to be able to win that trophy! The early days are the ones where you doubt you sanity but it does get much, much better. You've got the right attitude - keep it up! Water, liquids and Protein - the combination to success!

Hi Nikki, I had mine done on Oct 12 and today was my first full day at home. It's amazing how much better I felt in the hospital than I did today at home. I guess thats because they pumped me so full of liquid, pain, and nausea meds every 4 hours! I was able to walk around quite a bit at the hospital and have been burping / passing gas today. However, this morning was rough with gas pain and nausea. I was very sore and tired (I had two unexpected hernia fixes as well during my procedure).

sleep allows your body to heal, but I was told once I am up I need to move around and walk as much as I can and do different things as well (lifting up one leg at a time, side steps, etc) . That's the best thing I can say to you today. Best of luck and I hope you get everything you want out of this lifestyle change!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
