Walking up stairs losing my breathe

Recommended Posts

I could climb stirs fine before surgery and once in a blue moon be out of breathe but one week out one flight I'm out of breathe heart racing anyone else

Since this is a change in condition you should notify your surgeons office just to be cautious. Feel better soon.

If you are 1 week out you are likely very weak but I would check it out anyway.

As your fluids and Protein goals are achieved this will definately improve. It took a few weeks for me but I was on Clear liquids week 1 and was not allowed to start Protein until week 2. Even when I could drink protein it took about a month before I even could get half my daily requirement in.

Your lungs take a big hit during surgery. You are literally paralyzed during the surgery so it takes a lot for your lungs to reinflate fully after surgery (hence the spirometer). Definitely check with your surgeon, but you are still recovering.

Make sure you are getting in all your Protein and Water. It will help.

I live up 3 flights of stairs, and after surgery I had the same problem. The best advice I can give is take it easy. Take your time going up the stairs. I remember being out of breath and dizzy, and would pass out on my couch as soon I come in through the door. So, take it easy.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
