DH says NO WAY!

Recommended Posts

My DH and other family members don't seem to understand the struggle and problems I've had all my life. I told my DH today I am getting the surgery and he basically said I'm just too lazy to do it the right way. I have worked so hard at diet and excercise to lose in the past and gained it ALL back with a baby. I can't begin to say how depressing this is. I know I will always yo-yo without an intervention. Anyone else have this problem with family? At this point I just want to drive myself to the appointment :cryand not even tell anyone....

That is a real asshole thing to say. People like that piss me off. Don't hide it. Be proud that you're doing something well for yourself.

You know you want to do this for yourself, so just go for it and don't worry about what anyone else says. Anyone who says this is the easy way out is crazy. It is still a struggle, just with the band we have a fighting chance to not gain all the weight back! I'm sure your hubby will come around when you start looking great!

My DH also wasn't too happy about it, so I took him to the seminar and that convinced him it was the right thing for me. So now he is semi-supportive.To be fair, he is supportive but cautious. Like he keeps saying " you will have to do your part, it's not a magic bullet" etc... I guess I have failed at dieting SO many times he doesn't believe I can actually lose weight and keep it off. I kind of have the same doubts sometimes but try to brush them away quickly.

But no way I am telling his family, they are way too negative and I can't even imagine the kinds of comments they would make.

Tell him that you can work as hard as he wants you to lose the weight, but the problem is KEEPING IT OFF. Anyone can lose weight. We lose heart when it comes back so easily!!

And tell him he owes you something pretty for being an ass. lol

I am so sorry you are having this problem. I would also ditto telling you to bring him to a seminar. But also I wonder if he is afraid that you actually can do it with surgery and that scares him.

Anyone that says this is the easy way out should eat sh*t roll over and die. It is not easy! lol...Worth it, but not easy!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
