Question from a pre-op

Recommended Posts

Sure. To take to the hospital, I bought Biotene spray (for dry mouth), and Gas-X strips (for gas help, no swallowing needed). For after, I bought shaker bottles in colors I love from Blender Bottle, as well as pretty/functional Water bottles (I use Thermos Intak style.) To go with my Blender Bottle I have their "Go Stak" containers, which I use for carrying my many pills and Vitamin chews. I pre-load them each week and pop them into my bag when I go out.

I also tasted samples of tons of Vitamins, and ordered those in advance, which I was expected to do, but still some people don't. *grin*

I'm looking over my Amazon history. OH! I know. Two kinds of "PackIt" brand lunch/freezer bags. These have freezer gel packs built into them. The "sandwich" size is exactly big enough to hold two Premier Protein shakes, and the "mini lunch" size is big enough for three. I used these to make sure I had my own food with me so I could go out after surgery, because I like the pre-made shakes *cold*, not room temp. :-)

Foodwise, I had many kinds of sugar-free liquid available so I would be able to find something I was okay tasting. I also needed little containers of no-sugar-added applesauce, because that's what I had to use to take my omeprazole pills with -- open them up into a little spoonful of applesauce.

And speaking of spoons, I bought myself a tiny spoon -- it's a salt spoon -- to eat things like pudding with, because I was taking bites too big. :-)

As a tall guy, I wished I'd installed tall toilets in my house. Sure would have helped make it easier with this tender hernia.

I just want to say that 2 weeks before my surgery, we replaced our leaking toilet with a new "accessible" tall toilet that I had picked out. I was not thinking of it as something for the surgery -- I just wanted a nice one one. I tell you, it was the BEST THING EVER after surgery. :-) Every time I had to use it, I was like, "OMG I am so thankful we replaced the old toilet before my surgery! OMG! So gooood!" *grin*

I love my Hydroflask! Keeps that Water cold with ice not melting for 24 hours. And I use my small plates always. Couldn't work with the tiny utensils, but the plates are great.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
