someone in nyc 18 Posted October 14, 2015 I am 4 days post op and have diarrhea every day. Anyone else like this? Im getting my Protein and liquids and taking my meds as directed. I had one "normal" and the rest are loose and watery. Please help if you had this too!
James Marusek 5,244 Posted October 14, 2015 After surgery, I found that I became lactose intolerant. Anytime I drank milk, it resulted in diarrhea. This condition lasted for around 2 months and then disappeared. Some Protein shakes contain lactose.
Grace2115 27 Posted October 14, 2015 Ugh I'm day 5 post op and I get diarrhea everyday too. It's debilitating, because all of the sudden, I don't feel well. Then I lay down, my stomach starts rumbling and then I will be in the bathroom like, 10 times all evening! It's really a bummer. Also, I'm not even having any Protein yet. I'm on Clear Liquids til Thursday, then I start full liquids. Help!! So uncomfortable right now ????
imsoglad56 402 Posted October 14, 2015 I'm a sleever, not bypass, but I had diarrhea every day after surgery until I started eating solids. As long as I was only taking in liquids, that's all I was putting out also.
someone in nyc 18 Posted October 14, 2015 Well that makes sense, maybe it gets better with solid foods.
gpmed 623 Posted October 14, 2015 Just wrote this reply on another thread written by someone having the same problem: I'd call your bariatric team. They may want to test you for C. diff or give you IV fluids if you've become too dehydrated. I had the same problem around that time. My C. diff test came back negative, so my surgeon said to just take Imodium. It worked. I'm glad I checked in, even if it turned out to be nothing, cause it could have been a problem. xmeridith 7 Posted October 24, 2015 Possible cause is milk. I cannot tolerate it at all since day 1 and I'm 10 months out. However, my entire digestive process has changed 100% since surgery. Loose is my new regular. And multiple times a day. Everyone's body is different. My doctor's office says Imodium is a no-go forever for their patients. Can do more harm than good. red37 116 Posted October 25, 2015 I had the same issue for about two weeks post op, started the day after surgery. They tested me for cdif-that wasn't it, was not lactose intolerant, just some side effect of the experience. Be careful though because of this I ended up needing hydration at week three even though I was drinking the recommended amount of Water I became very dehydrated and sick, not fun!!! Drink extra!
