My surgery is tomorrow, and why does everyone keep saying sip sip sip..... Is it really going to be that hard to even sip after? Scared!!!! What am I getting myself into.

After surgery, my taste buds changed. I love to drink Water. But after surgery, the Water tasted extremely chlorinated and I could hardly drink it. Fortunately they give you ice chunks and then sugar free popsicles. As time went on I found that Crystal light helped with my Fluid requirements.

I don't think sipping was a problem for me. But the key is walk, walk, walk. It will accelerate the recovery process and help with relieving the pain from surgery.

They say sip sip sip bevause you will get full from just a sip of Water so it will feel like it takes forever to get all your fluids in. At least that's what I've noticed with myself. Good luck! You'll do great!

What they mean is it's difficult to take in a lot of liquid at once without feeling overly full or nauseous.

Before surgery I could finish a 16 oz bottle of Water in five minutes if I was really thirsty. I'm three weeks post-op and it takes me at least 45 minutes to finish 8 oz of Water. I have to take tiny sips and space them out. Getting in the 48-64 oz of liquid my surgeon recommends means I have to "sip, sip, sip" all day long.

Good luck with your surgery!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
