Recommended Posts

I have only consumed 221 calories today, and feeling like I should be consuming more. Im only 4 days post-op and an struggling getting anything down. Is everyone else having this problem? Is there anything I can do to get more Protein in to bump up my calories? Can't exist on 221 calories. Thanks!

Don't worry about the calories for now. You have plenty of fat reserve to pull from. The key thing is to stay hydrated. Make sure you are drinking and taking your Vitamins. As you get stronger you will drink more. This is only temporary.

Is the same way after 4 days. It WILL get better. I am 5 wks out and still struggling a little bit. I can only east about 3oz. of food at a time. It's a real adjustment. I have incorporated some seeds and veggies now but you are no where near ready. Make sure you drink enough. I know it's tough right now but it really does get better. Baby steps. Get yourself some stool softener. More that likely you will be constipated with the amount of Protein you are trying to get on right now. Hope I helped. ????

Yup, what @@BLERDgirl said. Staying hydrated is your priority right now. People get readmitted to the hospital post surgery for dehydration, not for starvation ;)

It will get better. Focus on your hydration. Believe it or not you can live on such tiny amounts of calories. It took me weeks to get my calorie count up.

Hang in there.

I track my calories on myfitnesspal and yes, my calories are low, but I am currently ONLY looking at Protein, not calories at this time. I am 5 days post-op and I am on liquids only for the next 10 days and my goal is 65 per day per my NUT.

Today, through 6PM, I have consumed 351 calories, and 52 grams of Protein.

My meals consisted of Premier Protein, Dannon Greek Yogurt, Low Sodium Butternut Squash Soup and I have another 1/2 Premier Protein to drink before bed.

I am also adding in sips of Water.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
