So I am scheduled for an endospopy on weds. The lady who made the appointment said she was sending me information on the pre-procedure diet. I just opened the envelope and it says instructions for colonoscopy. Didi you all get an endoscopy? Did they sedate you? Did you have a special diet before? do you think she thought i wanted a colonoscopy or do you think she just sent me the wrong instructions.

I had both at the same time so I did have to follow a special liquid diet for the Colonoscopy so really can't answer that but I was put out and never knew anything happened. It is a piece of cake. :o

Good Luck

I'd call back and ask.....it could be a simple mistake. My endoscopy, was done without serious prep---nothing by mouth after midnight...then they gave me verced (sp?) for it, and it was not a biggie at all. On the other hand, my Mom had to drink a bunch of junk to clean her out, and avoid meat, and red food dye prior to her colonoscopy....so there is a difference. I'd call!!

Good luck with your procedure!

I have worked doing endoscopies for about 8 years (now i work in the er). There is a big difference in the prep. The colonoscopy involves a lot of laxatives to clean you out, The upper is usually nothing by mouth after midnight. Since I am not sure what they are looking for, make sure you call the dr's office that scheduled it and ask to speak with the nurse for specific EGD instructions. ..I use to give out all that versed..pretty good stuff!! I got 2 mg on the way to my OR for the lap band...and I was out like a light (I had two male nurses..and man were they handsome...i called them Nurse Mcdreamies!!..too bad the versed knocked me out so fast)....good luck!!

thanks guys! I think she sent me the colonoscopy information instead! I am glad I don't have to do the laxative thing ewww. I just hope that she didn't schedule me for the colonoscopy instead of the endoscopy - do you think it will matter in terms of appointment time? This was a pain to schedule.

you should be able to keep your appointment time...an egd takes about 10-15 mins total where as a colonoscopy can take 30 mins to an hour depending. Good luck

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
