I know fish is high in Protein and great for you. Pre-surgery (I'm 5 days out) I hated fish. But I want to try it. What are some mild ones that are ok to eat early on?

halibut and flounder are good too. I usually prefer stronger-tasting fish like mackerel and swordfish but I am always tempted by halibut when I see it on a menu!

Salmon IF you cut the skin off AND the dark brown streak it has down the middle.

Tilapia, swai, porgies and salmon are great mild tasting fish, although salmon is very meaty.

Mahi, salmon, sword fish, bass are my favorite and I didn't really eat fish until I was like 22. Also I eat it usually when dining out because I just can't cook good fish....

I really like haddock and cod. I grew up on the Midwest so wasn't a big fish eater till I moved to the east coast.

Be careful with swordfish if you are a woman of childbearing age, it can cause birth defects. I love talipia and swai they are both mild and easy to cook varying ways.

I don't really care for fish that much, but I can do Salmon. It tends to be meatier and when cooked right does taste really good. I don't eat the skin through! yuck

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
